Bob, you're suggestion does indeed work.
Because I already had CKE installed and set in which_editor I didn't realize that when I installed Tiny it automatically set it as the default editor. Duh. Once I changed it back to CKE everything worked.

Now if only the modmore guys can make Redactor work on the front-end sooner rather than later because I so don't like TinyMCE. No offense to those of you who do.

Nobody likes TinyMCE.
It was a huge hassle to make TinyMCE work in the front end with NP. Markus Schlegel did most of the work. (TBH, I don't think I could have done it.) There were many issues, but the file/image browser was the worst. I suspect that it would take a lot of work to make any other editor work with NP and I think Mark H. has many other fish to fry (me too), so don't hold your breath.
No breath-holding here, but it can't hurt to ask. Maybe if more MODXers requested an alternative it might inspire change. Or not.
In any case I also asked danya about CKE so perhaps between the two one of them ... ?
