Friendly URLs

I know a lot has been written about this, but I’ve read through all the documentation and all the posts and I still just can’t get this to work. I’m testing out on my mac server and I am getting a 404 error:

"The requested URL /~mycomputer/moddy/modx-0961p2/page48.html was not found on this server."

Both files have been changed to .htaccess (from ht.access)

in the directory /modx-0961p2/ the .htaccess is:

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /

and

# The Friendly URLs part
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

Apache seems to have the mod working:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^TRACE
RewriteRule .* - [F]

So where am I going wrong?
It seems that the friendly URLs are appearing on the address bar of the browser, but Modx can’t find the pages.

You need to modify the rewrite base to reflect the location of your MODx installation in relation to the web root.

For example, I have mine in the default MAMP install location, so /Applications/MAMP/htdocs is the web root. Then I have each installation in its own folder, for example I’ll have /modx-0962 or /modx-097a. And that is what I use in the rewrite base (/modx-whatever).

Hi I’m not entirely sure what you mean. But I have tried:

RewriteBase /moddy/modx-0961p2/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /moddy/modx-0961p2/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

and

RewriteBase /modx-0961p2/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ modx-0961p2/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

and neither worked

IIRC when you set the correct RewriteBase you don’t need it again in the RewriteRule

When you have it in both locations, you’re trying to rewrite /moddy/modx-0961p2//moddy/modx-0961p2/, which of course will not work.

sorry IIRC?

If I Recall Correctly... IIRC

Ok, first time I heard that one
Anyway, so I’ve tried the following:

RewriteBase modx-0961p2/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

and

RewriteBase moddy/modx-0961p2/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

the location of my install is /Users/mycomputer/sites/moddy/modx-0961p2

but I’m still getting the error:

"The requested URL /~mycomputer/moddy/modx-0961p2/page48.html was not found on this server."

Any ideas anyone? I’m really stuck on this

nope. tried that and nothing. Any other suggestions?
