    Hi,

so i think that there is probably an easy enough solution for this but i just can’t seem to be able to track it down...

my problem is that i am looking to change the extention folder of my Modx webite that appears in the browser
ie i want to be able to change my website from

    www.mydomain.com/Site5

    to

    www.mydomain.com/ie

whereby all my files, manager, assets are in a Site5 folder on my server.

is there an easy way to do this?, can i just create a new folder, re-install modX in it, copy over all the files &update my non friendly links?, or perhaps just change the name on the Site5 folder and hope it works?
really don’t want to break everything at this stage but it is a change i need to make...
    or even a practical solution.
(please keep in mind that i actually didnt install modx for this project but have pretty much built up everything else successfully, all thats left to do is change this) embarrassed

The easiest way is to rename the Site5 dir to ie. All the paths should adjust themselves if you do not have any custom paths set. Remember to clear the site cache before doing this to make sure that the old paths are cleared.

Did you clear the cache ?
And if you are using the friendly URLs, did you change the setting of ’.htaccess’ ?

yeah i cleared the cache that was no bother,,i am using friendly url’s(i noticed that it did fix the linkage when switched them off, but i really do need to keep my friendly urls)

i discovered the htaccess file and know that that was what is causing the problems,

looking into what i need to change now, just there is no mention of my site extention?(Site5) so not exactly sure what needs changing in here?

This is part of the default htaccess file. You will need to edit the RewriteBase /Site5/ as well as the RewriteRule / RewriteCond that you have selected.

                  #Options +FollowSymlinks
                  RewriteEngine On
                  RewriteBase /

                  # Rewrite www.domain.com -> domain.com -- used with SEO Strict URLs plugin
                  #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
                  #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^example-domain-please-change\.com [NC]
                  #RewriteRule (.*) http://example-domain-please-change.com/$1 [R=301,L]
                  #
                  # or for the opposite domain.com -> www.domain.com use the following
                  # >>> DO NOT USE BOTH THE ABOVE AND BELOW <<<
                  #
                  #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
                  #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example-domain-please-change\.com [NC]
                  #RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example-domain-please-change.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Hi, im not sure what happened, but i seem to have done soimething very wrong and messed up my site completly now,

i changed the ht.access as instructed, changed the sub dir name etc but when i tried to access my new websites adress the home page was fine but all other pages had problems it kept coming back as

                    Not Found
The requested URL /modx/index.php was not found on this server.

                    Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.mysitesname.com Port 80

so i decided to try and change back to the way it was working before(Site5).... and now that is not working either,,, the same page error occurs?

ANYBODY have any clues to this? really getting worried ive messed up the whole pathing system of my site

                      update:

hey im pretty sure i made the mistake and accidentally redirected it to a /modx folder whioch was obviously wrong. i was able to use
                      RewriteEngine On
                      RewriteBase /Site5
                      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
                      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
                      RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA,NC]

to get the site back to working off the ?site folder, but every time i try to create a re-write for an /ie folder it stops working.

:( not sure what to do now...
