I like to poke at things to see how they work, so every now and then I try installing with whatever the hosting provider has. I have yet to actually continue developing a site with one. Even if it appears to be a minor issue that I can fix, I can't trust it to be steady in the long run. So I wipe it, MODX and database, and set it up the "hard way" - but I can trust it.

Trying doing a manual install — first deleting all of the previously install files and directories (or moving them out of the way by placing them into a new directory)

Create a new database, then unpack a MODx install on the server and follow the setup instructions.
