The install.php script simplifies upgrading as well as installing. It downloads the selected version directly from the MODX repository to your server, and unzips it in place. Then it forwards you to the Setup.
Of course, you need to backup your site before doing anything to it.

Can you post the link to this script, please ?

Finally - went through all system settings one by one, comparing with site that was upgraded without problem and finally discovered the problem (do vaguely recall seeing this somewhere - but clearly very important) - remember to set your
manager_theme to
default
Bob you can add that to your list of things to check
Now can I finally get on with some other work!!!

This is my Revo-only fork of the original, which original also has options for various Evo and Clipper versions. I've also added a cURL fallback for sites that don't have allow_url_fopen enabled. And I am careful to make sure that I keep it updated.

Good tip. I never change the Manager Theme, which may explain why I see a lot of problems reported that never happen to me.

As it happens that was probably the one and only time I had ever looked at doing so and then decided it wasn't really worth the effort!! Hence the reason I'd forgotten about that setting. Also it hasn't arisen as a problem whilst doing upgrades through version 2.2, it only became an issue when going from 2.2 to 2.3 because of course, the manager changed so much.
All part of the never end learning curve!
