Make sure you check the name of your htaccess file ... as Susan mentioned, it should be ".htaccess" with the period in front (but not the quotes).

Did you change the use friendly alias URL’s setting or anything else in that section? Sounds like the FURL configuration just is not getting set. If it was an htaccess problem you’d still get the proper FURL’s generated on the pages, but they just wouldn’t work because the rewrite engine wouldn’t be able to rewrite them properly.

I’m not sure this is kosher or that it would work, but its what I do for the MODx installs I’ve made and it’s gotten the sef urls to work.

-I uploaded a .zip file called "htaccess_files.zip" download it an unpack it.
-Place the first .htaccess file in the root folder of your MODx install
-Place the other .htaccess file located in the "manager" folder inside the "manager" folder of your modx install
-Delete or rename the htaccess.txt files in your root folder and manager folder

Let me know if that worked!

        Best,

Let me keep at it now is more of a personal thing I have to make it work.

Thanks again for all your help and if you can think of anything else that could help everything is appreciated.

All I do is rename the ht.access file that is installed with a MODx installation to .htaccess and then in the Manager, turn on Friendly URLs in Tools/Configuration/Friendly URLs (actually I don’t recall the the order if I do one before the other.) I usually don’t bother with a suffix like .htm or what have you, but that’s up to personal preference.

I select Yes for Use Friendly URLs empty the prefix and suffix fields and leave the rest at default. Obviously the servers I’ve been working off have mod_rewrite enabled, which helps.

When I upload a renamed .htaccess file (or a backup) it "disappears" in my FTP window, and it also disappears if I rename it directly, on the server, within my FTP client. I suspect that .htaccess can be hidden by default on some servers? I’ve gone into server control panels and I can see it there, even though I can’t in my FTP application.

go up to ur ftp and click show hidden files, it should be there if you’ve copied it across properly. My problem is really annoying me now. I’ve gone through the tutorial and edited the .htaccess file where necessary.and ive edited the config properties in my modx, but yet the url still don’t work.i have a product page for example with a a document alias of "product" but now when i type that into the end of the url it just brings up a 404 error. Any ideas people?
