You also need to edit the htaccess (it is named ht.access but needs to be renamed to .htaccess) file that comes with modx in order to get furls to work. Also clear the site cache to make sure all menus have the current settings.

are u hosting on unix or windows?

if ur using unix do what is suggested above.
if your using windows u could be in trouble. You need to use an ISAPI rewrite module, and 9 times out of 10 this will not be available on shared hosting.

I’m on a unix host, I renamed the ht.access  to htaccess now what do I have to put in it? you say to edit it?

I put this in it which I got from one of the other forums.

          "RewriteEngine On
          Options +FollowSymlinks
          RewriteBase /
          RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]"

          I have
          Use friendly URLs: yes
          Use friendly aliases: Yes
          Suffix for friendly URLs:shtml
Use friendly alias path: Yes ( just said yes to see if that would help but nothing!!)
          but it still not working,

          thanks for your help.

            Options +FollowSymlinks
            RewriteEngine On
            RewriteBase /
            RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
            RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
            RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

And turn on friendly URLs in the configuration.

Don’t forget to rename the ht.access file in the /manager folder to .htaccess to turn off the rewrite engine for the manager.

Ok I tried the code but I still can not get it to work huh must be something I’m doing wrong, >:( let me ask, after I do all of the above rename the htaccess file, put the code above in it, and turning friendly URLs on

                Use friendly URLs: yes
                Use friendly aliases: Yes
                Suffix for friendly URLs: shtml

it should work right? or am I missing a step? and the URL should be the alias right, if I have a page with id=4 and alias =chair the new URL should just be chair.shtml correct ( my suffix is shtml) or am I still missing something?

                thanks for the help

You renamed it to .htaccess? (with the . in front)

I’m not sure about shtml; your server may have some other ideas about that suffix.

                  http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/mod/mod_include.html

Is there some reason why you need it to be .shtml, as opposed to .html?

No, not really it was just that I was going to use SSI on some of the pages so I though I would keep it uniform, and yes I did put the . in front of htaccess and I’ve also tried it with just hml but with out any luck

let me ask you maybe it’s just my ignorance what’s the URL supposed to look like

like if i I had http://www.mysite.com/cms/ when I create a document it comes up with

                    http://www.mysite.com/cms/index.php?id=1

if the alias is chair I should be able to bring up the page with this URL

                    http://www.mysite.com/cms/chair.html right?

cause that’s what I’m doing but I can not get it to work lol it tells me page not found

thanks for your help and patience.

It should look like "your domain.com/alias.suffix", or if you have alias paths turned on, "yourdomain.com/parentalias/alias.suffix". So it looks like it’s not working at all. Does your Apache configuration have mod_rewrite enabled?
