Help Needed with 2.2.14 update | Setup Screen Blank

No CPanel. This server is very very frustrating. Way beyond my skill level.

Ah. Yes, I used to have self-managed VPS, but just don't have the energy to manage these things any more.

Well, your phpinfo() will show the error_log setting - that's in the Core block.

I'm reading on their wiki and they say error reporting is turned off and instuctions say to put php_flag display_errors on
php_value error_reporting 2047 in the .htaccess file.

Of course – it doesn't say anything about where to view those errors. Or does that just put the error in the browser window?

Time to unplug then. My very first money-making computer job was replacing a hard drive that was killed by a nearby lightning strike.

I always unplug my computers and my router if I even suspect an electrical storm. When I was a child we once had the telephone pole across the street struck, and it literally melted the internal workings of our telephone.

I modified the htaccess and got an error.

It looks like it's trying to go back into that modx-2.2.14-pl directory. Am I wrong. Would that have gotten messed up because the tech support guy navigated to the setup folder?

I have merged out the directories in the unpacked folder. But since had tried to delete the modx-2.2.14, and ran into permission errors part way through, so I changed the folder name. It should not be referencing that folder though. The setup folder is out in the root at mydomain.com/setup

It may have written something. I've never really examined exactly what the setup does. Try replacing the setup directory with a fresh upload - zip the upload directory on your local machine, upload and unzip in place.

The storm has passed. That sounds scary with the melted phone. Lightening can do really crazy things!

Yes. That's a good idea! I was just sitting here trying to figure out how to back out of this conundrum.
