Do you mean php.ini or .htaccess (ht.acess) . You cannot edit such files through a browser you will need to download it using an ftp application or web editor that has built in ftp.

I opened ht.access in a text editor and all thats inside is:

      RewriteEngine Off

I cant find php.ini looking right now for it...

also when I make a new user and assign a password I cant log in using it. I also cant log into my site as siteadmin. I think I might have made a file read only or something that should not be... hmm

Lets deal with one issue at a time.

First, do you know what folders you changed the permissions of?

Second, MODx will work without the ht.access file so lets leave that until you get into MODx.

It is always best to completely solve one problem before changing other variables. You can quickly get lost.

Yes I changed back what I was told to, I figured it out now, siteadmin is a "webuser" and therefore cannot allow me to access the modx Manager. I logged into Modx Manager using a siteuser name/password. I didnt know that there were two different types of users, that can share the same names.

So now Im trying to figure out why the login thing doesnt show up on my site. I cant log into my site as a "web user" because the boxs dont exist for it yet... Im assuming I need to setup some sort of mail client configuration so that it can mail users things...

and If I could find the php.ini file I would just open and change that... I know my way around .ini files hehe.

          the site is skylineking.com
if you want to see for yourself.

Also Under webresources I found the weblogin snippet. Its code I am not familiar with but I am trying to make sense of it.

            Okay,

The login on your index page is for web users. It is not the manager login which is always (under default conditions) located at sitename.com/manager

Once you are logged into the manager (using the username and password you used during the installation) you can change the template.

The login on the sidebar of the template is for webusers (people who have varying access levels to content). Don’t worry about this field until you are all sorted out and it may have no impact on your site final anyhow.

If you are logged into the manager and you are getting a register globals error you should be able to fix this by uncommenting the line in ht.access that says #php_flag register_globals Off by removing the # and renaming the ht.access to .htaccess if you get a 500 error you will likely have to check something else. Let me know how it turns out.

            Cheers,

So now I should change the template? do I make my own? Or?

I tried to make a new template, wrote some basic HTML and got

Warning: fopen(../assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/virtual/site192/fst/var/www/html/manager/processors/cache_sync.class.processor.php on line 215
                  Cannot open file (../assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php)

That file has its original permissions (owner read/write) but is not global writeable... should it be?

The assets/cache file has to be world readable and writeable by the owner. I also think that all its files should be 777 or 755 depending on your config.

Honestly you usually don’t ever need to change permissions from the download files unless the situation is as I mentioned here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,23157.msg142817.html#msg142817.

Try it and see if that works.

                      "The assets/cache, assets/images and assets/files folders still need to be 777 (world-writable)"

So Im going to set my the above FOLDERS and FILES to World Writable now...
cant some random person just mess the files and folders up if they are world writable all the time?
