Recent commits would be great, but what I really would like to know is what is being worked on. Get a sense of direction and progress.
The product is open source so "what's being worked on" and "progress" are public things, and the community could handle reporting on that.

Being able to see and comment on what's happening in a project is not at all the same as having input on the project's direction.

There's a huge difference between, "Here are some alternatives we're considering, what you do you think?" and "Here's what we've done so far."

You are of course right when it comes to things we can follow on github, like the beta milestone for 2.3 https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/issues?milestone=43&state=open - but even with those it can be hard to tell if they are being worked on or not (since most have been there for a while).

Until I started to follow the MODX Revolution respository on github, I had no idea how much work was happening on daily and hourly basis on the platform. It's been a real eye opener and I wish I'd known about it sooner.
