Hi all. I decided recently to upgrade one of my sites. I use Filezilla and during this upgrade I seemed to be in file upload hell. What I mean is the upgrade seemed to be a full version. Replacing each file and folder seemed to take forever till I was glazed in the face.
In comparing to other content managment systems: When Zen cart comes out with an upgrade their security upgrades usually only require replacing a few core files. Not the entire install folder. Now on some larger upgrades it does require more work adn over-writing core files.
In Wordpress you just click and update in the panel. Very easy I know.
Is is only me or are even small updates major hassle with MODx? I am not bad-mouthing. It's just that I have over 15 sites and now this new major security popped up. Is there a better way than Filezilla? Are there smaller patches instead of full installations for each little update? Why does it seem we have to re-install the entire program (all the files) instead of just a few updated files to fix bugs? Wouldn't it make more sense if the new fix was a patch that we could apply? I just don't understand why every single file needs re-written for any little update. I have to be missing something here.
OK well I found this post:
https://forums.modx.com/thread/73015/ftp-client-that-supports-directory-merging that definately helps me out. Still would be nice if minor upgrades were small patches instead of full version files. Perhaps that can be an option in the future if the easy update does not come at some point to the control panel.
