      Sulman thanks so much for your enthusiasm and recent posts. You’re exactly the type of person we’d like to have actively engaging our (and that includes YOU) community. smiley

        We need to get slashdotted. Maybe when 1.0 gets released. How’s the servers, Ryan? grin

          Not slashdot-ready that’s for sure! Server likely needs to become servers for that!

            I chose the same path from MyCart.
            I’m ruined too, and had the same experiences. Once you go MODx (and actually figure out which word does what) there’s no going back. Especially when you’re asked to do some ecommerce app that has built in CMS functionality. <shudder> There’s just no way ProStores or ZenCart or anything else can compete with MODx as a CMS. I had a friend go back to a different CMS after trying MODx and I almost took him off my IM buddy list.

            I’m really (really) happy FoxyCart has been helpful, since the goal was to make ecommerce + MODx as flexible and easy to deploy as possible.
              Need MODx Ecommerce? Try FoxyCart!

              Here’s another good quote. A few months ago I met a good designer for lunch and we were talking about WYSIWYG and such. He told me about a cool little program that let’s you make your site editable. I told him about MODx and havent talked to him since.

              So I was looking for the program he mentioned and emailed him about it. He said I could share his response with everyone here. Great testimony for MODx!

              that CMS i told you about is...
              http://snippetmaster.com

              ...but ever since you turned me on to ModX and i used it on a client site, i’ve been hooked on it instead. i’m even thinking about using it for all my sites, whether the client pays for a cms or not - and then down the road if they want one, boom, it’s there ;-)
              it rocks.

              but yeah, for a "simple" and quick solution, the snippetmaster is great too for simple current page content editing.

                My learning curve is coming around. Today I got a deeper look at Ditto. Ditto drives me nuts. How freaking hard can it be!?!?! I only hope I don’t exasperate you pro MODx types with my thickness. I don’t want to be thick, really!

                But I got to looking around a little more and honestly, I’m excited. Against my bosses wishes, I converted our site to MODx. I haven’t told her yet but when she goes networking this week, I think she is going to come back with a lot more responses to our website. (Note to self: get the keywords and meta tags ready to roll.)

                That’s because MODx rocks in the SEF arena.I love those ultra SEF URLs. I can’t type "ultra SEF URLS" enough. I tell all of my small business clients what they want MODx+FoxyCart. I got two clients last week based on that alone. And despite 570 views and zero replies for a javascript calculator, I did find someone who says they can.

                I’m sold on MODx. Drupal: too complicated for most part. Joomla: you really need to get your webmaster’s head wrapped around the Menu builder in order to get it to do what you want. Both CMS really do require someone to webmaster larger sites all the time. It’s just not easy. At first, I thought they were, and maybe compared to MODx they are, but neither have the potential that MODx has.

                If you want to grow the MODx community, maybe you need a "conversion" guide: show other front end developers how MODx does what drupal and Joomla does. I think you can focus on comparing MODx to drupal’s ACL, and with Joomla’s content manager.

                After 2 months of getting to know MODx I feel that it would have won best CMS 2007 outright had the judges took the time to get to know how it works.

                  Ditto is key to displaying, sorting, filtering documents and templating document’s listing. It’s one of the 3 snippet MODx wouldn’t go far without : Wayfinder (a website without a menu...) and AjaxSearch (a website without search...) are the 2 others I have in mind.

                  If you’re not used to snippet, parameters can make you dizzy, especially Ditto’s since there are many of them tongue
                  The good thing is, Ditto has good documentation : http://ditto.modxcms.com/

                  Once you’re into the logic of snippet’s parameter’s : you’re in !
                  Everybody struggles at first if they’re not familiar with the logic... you’ll get there smiley

                    One of the best new features of most of the bigger snippets is the &config parameter. With this, you no longer have to fight with arcane-looking snippet tags with a gazillion parameters. Just one parameter that points to a file, and neatly list all your parameters in the file:
                    <?php
                    // config file for <specific> Ditto call
                    $parents = '2,4,6,8';
                    $tpl = 'chunkName';
                    &etc = 'and so forth';
                    ?>

                      @scottwell, I agree those &config are genius I just hope more snippets will incorporate that type of setup.
