    Hi all,

I’m currently thinking of setting up a blog and was after opinions of what to use I like the features of wordpress for bloging and I have seen the examples of ditto for bloging but it seems like a lot of hardwork.

Has anyone got any good examples of modx / ditto blogs to sway my opinion?

    Thanks Aaron.

What frequency do you plan to post? What types of comments do you need? How do you want paging and archives handled? Do you need trackbacks, blog-and-ping, etc.?

Oh for a couple of samples of blogs see the one on the MODx site itself for one with comments that was put together forever ago (with multiple authors no less) and Ellie&Ollie for a really pretty blog without comments but presented in multiple ways.

If you can make pages in MODx and optionally input a few words for tags you can have a blog up in pretty any flavor you prefer.

Hmm I’ve not thought about all that basically I’m looking at blogging tech articles every few days and will also include programming snippets for my customers and anyone to use.

I see with Ditto you can use tag cloud, I’m also interested in having digg buttons, rss feeds, comments, auto submitting to news sites would be good aswell if i was going to post something worthy.

In terms of paging i was thinking of having tag clouds or categories of the topics plus a month / year type archive.

Also it would be great if the blog can auto generate SEO urls and meta tag / keywords.

I Love MODx just think I need some encouragement of what is possible laugh

          Thanks Aaron

Thanks for the links and advice Ryan

I was looking at the modx blog earlier and thought to myself it does half of what I want and I think you have answered my question with the Ellie&Ollie lin. I love how it has seperate options for how a user wants to browse through blog entries

            By Month
            By Category
            By Title

I have to say the website is very nice too and I only wished I lived in the states so that I could order some cookies.

I’m going to go ahead and download and install the latest modx on a test domain to play about with ditto and Newspublisher

            Thanks

Despite the ability for many of the snippets and the awesome power of Ditto, MODx is not Wordpress . That has its pluses and minuses. On the development side, it is far easier to build a site in MODx than in WP. The minuses MODx is not a blog application.

Wordpress is a single purpose application that allows bloggers to benefit from that focus.

If you are hoping to build readership, traffic, and Google Page Rank WP is the shortest route to a long haul. Wordpress has built in trackbacks, pings and comment antispam as well as literally dozens of stable plugins to help you achieve your blogging goals.

If you are interested in a simple blog and just want to have a way to organize and present your posts then MODx will fit the bill easily. In addition you can learn to work with one of the most flexible content/app frameworks you will ever come across.

              Cheers,

              Jay

I tend to agree with smashingred’s view. You can have a great blog with MODx, but with WordPress you would get a dedicated blog app full of blog specific features. You could replicate most features to some degree with MODx but you would have to put some effort into it while in WP it would be a matter of uploading a widget. The bigget challenge with WP would be the styling, if you are going for something very custom you may suffer a bit before it gets just right.

This might not be the direct answer to your question, but there is WordPress and MODx integration.

Thanks for the replies, WP seems like a good choice and your right everything does come as a std with extra plugins.

I’m really interested if anyone could share examples of some great things they have done with MODx Blogging / Ditto

                      Thanks again
