I need to be able to share a few documents between 2 domains: siteA.com and siteB.com. They’re both on the same server. What’s the best way to do this? One thought I had is setup MODx with 2 top level folders: siteA and siteB, and configure siteA to be the "primary" domain. Then I could use .htaccess and modrewrite to send any requests that come to http://siteA.com/siteB/mypage.htm to http://siteB.com/mypage.htm

The only downside I see is that search engines might not look favorably on that type of rewrite.

Has anyone done this or had a similar challenge? Is this the best way to go about it?

    Thanks

I have a similar issue with a couple of sites where it would be easier for Site A to be the main source of news and Site B and Site C to simply pull the news from Site A rather then duplicate the news content three times.

Is it possible to pull a document container & contents from one to MODx site and display it on another..

ganesh, how would you use a special Ditto call to access another database? btw, where is the MODx API? I know there’s a partial list on this site, but that’s not everything.

I think ganeshXL means to output the news from siteA using an RSS feed, then in site B use either an existing snippet or a custom one to grab that data and parse it...that is how I would do it.

http://modxcms.com/api-quick-reference.html is one place to look or the WIki http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Main_Page, I’m not sure where else you could look.

          Good luck!

Ditto would be used to create an RSS feed of your content and then something like FeedX could be used on the other site to consume and present the content.

The MODxAPI Library is an add-on available in the repository. I’m not sure if it would work in this scenario though.

If this is two sites in one deployment, you may need to look into some of the subsites add-ons/hacks also available in the repository. Just search on the word "subsites" and there are various add-ons to download and threads to read regarding this solution. This would best support your need to share the document I believe.

Future versions will support multi-site deployment and content sharing in one install in various scenarios, but at the moment, you’ll need to research the pro’s and con’s of each approach and decide which is the right one for you.

Thanks everyone. I’m leaning toward the RSS feed as it’s less of a hack, I think.

btw, I did not see FeedX. what’s the best RSS reader (snippet) out there?

Per its advanced templating, caching, and debugging capabilities, FeedX is the best RSS Reader (snippet) for MODx (IMHO).
