I am looking to re-create for enterprise level features with MODX. I believe this is one of them.

It would help in integrating email automation tools like Marketo and Vero.

If you obtain their email from a form, but don't provide ability to log back in how do they access their data from another computer or browser?

I think you are missing the point. I just want to use the functionality that is already available with user groups. There are already features and snippets that I could use with them. I just wanted to have content personalization and marketing automation on the site.

The problem with your tweet is that I don't think this is something that 90% of the users would use, warranting it to be in the core. Add that every site is unique and I hope you understand why this is not something that can be added to the core once and support every use case out there.

I think you could do everything you've asked for with a plugin and some formit hooks to collect that data, though I think adding the requirement to reuse user groups for it would actually make it more complex than necessary.

As you say, this is an enterprise-level feature. Enterprises have budgets (plus the way you want to use the feature should result in revenue, so there's ROI), so my suggestion is to hire a developer (or two) to work on this feature as a custom development.

I hear ya, Mark. Thanks for the reply.

I am looking to copy some of Sitefinity's features. We are looking for a new CMS and most the group wants a .NET solution, but I am trying to make a case for MODX. One of the features that marketing wants is content personalization. Check it out.

I was thinking of how to re-create in MODX and thought that I could piggyback on top of user groups. I will try a different approach. Thanks again.

You can always save information in User extended fields, or probably better, in an extended user object. Either one is relatively easy to implement.

Looks like others are building this in.

With User Groups, User Settings, Extended User Fields, snippets and plugins, there are so many ways already to build content personalization into MODX. I don't see the need to do anything to the core to support it beyond what's already there. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the concept.

I guess I should rephrase it. It would be nice to have as one of the "core" snippets. Like wayfinder and getresource. I would imagine that every site would use those. And if you want to make an enterprise-level website you would want rule-based behavioral content personalization.

Can you give some more specific examples of what "rule-based behavioral content personalization" would mean? I'm having trouble imagining a generic snippet that would provide what you're suggesting.

BTW, there's really no such thing as "core" snippets in Revo. All snippets are equally available in the Repo. Some, like getResources and Wayfinder, are more popular than others, but that popularity isn't set ahead of time. There was talk about "sponsored" extras and some extras are marked as "Solid" in the Repo, but I don't think either of those concepts are still active.
