There's a ton of activity going on regarding the new Manager in 2.3. Creating Manager themes will be infinitely simpler to do, also. If you reviewed the current dev branch, there's a lot of updates that will be coming in over the next few days that should improve the visual heirarchy, retina-display friendliness, overall UX and the way it feels in general. Much is still broken or incomplete while the transition is occurring, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a whirl again in a week or so. Thanks for your feedback!

Personally, I don't care all that much about Manager themes, though I know some people do.

What I'd really like is an easy way to modify the User and Resource panels to add custom fields of various kinds (text, dropdown, checkbox, etc.) that would not get trashed by an upgrade of MODX. At present, you can add new fields with a plugin (which I don't mind using), but AFAIK, they can only be added at the end of the form.

If you use ExtJS to add the fields (which I guess you are), have a look at the insert method instead of add; it allows you to pass an index so you can add fields in other places.

Mark, can you give me an example? I've just been adding the HTML in OnUserFormSave without any JS at all, but it means I can only add them at the end.

I've just installed the dev build of MODX 2.3 and I'm really loving the speed improvement. This is exciting! I also love the UI efficiency -- that many menu items were reorganized in a very savvy way is to be applauded. It's also refreshing to see that system icons are finally getting a facelift. That resource search tool is awesome! I know something nice is on the way, so I'll look out for further improvements and although I think the manager could use a little bit of branding, I do salute the effort to finally do something about its looks and I'm linking positive shif.

I too have just installed MODX 2.3 and have to say that I think this is a really great step forward. The UI looks and feels much fresher and more solid. Big fan of simplicity!

Also being able to customise the manager is pretty important when building for brands that expect everything to be in-brand. This is a great addition and will help MODX stand out further. It will be interesting to see how you handle the current dropdown menus... maybe some more iconography and minimalism? wink

Are you using FontAwesome 3 or 4 by the way?

We are using font-awesome ~3.2.1 which means newest version below 3.3.

I took a look at 4.x but we haven't had a chance to fix all the breaking changes yet.

Is there a place for suggestions for the 2.3 Manager interface?

Having the "New whatever" and "Refresh" icons for the Elements tab moved to each element's type is a nice touch, but it would be even nicer if the icons were inline with the element title.

If they are appearing under the title, that's a bug recently fixed. Should be inline floated right. We are working on opening GitHub issues and that will be best place for styling and design issues

I just installed the latest "nightly" from download/nightlies, so I guess it wasn't fixed as of 2 Nov.

The importing of static resources will be really nice once it's implemented! Hopefully it'll be able to import files from anywhere; for example give it a path and it'll import .pdf files recursively within that path, even if it's outside of the web root?

In case nobody's noticed, I've got an obsession with static resources wink

It was fixed yesterday afternoon so should be in the next nightly. Hopefully along with some primary action styles for buttons on many pages. The tree font size may go back to the same as 2.2 but we'd like to add options to enlarge it.
I'm not sure about importing static resources but that sounds nice.
There are still some really wonky bugs, like on the property sets page.

It would be nice to see 4.x used as it does offer some nice performance improvements over 3.x not to mention avoiding releasing something new with out of date third-party components. The actual conversion shouldn't be that bad (there is even a find/replace list for making the switch).

Speaking of third-party components, do you have any plans to leverage system settings for their inclusion? Basically give us the choice to use a local copy, or leverage a CDN (ex: cdnjs.com) for serving those resources. I login to enough MODX sites I would be amazed if I didn't have the entire manager cached by now - if they all used the same (already cached) source talk about a speed boost!
