I tried out Revolution 2.3.0, but I was really disappointed by the big changes in the management screen UI.
If I were to change to version 2.3.0, will I be unable to use the existing management screen?
I like the current management screen, so I do not want to use the new management screen.

I know how you feel, I always hate it when something I'm used to gets changed. It took me how many years to finally switch from using Evo to Revo? The local supermarket is currently re-arranging the shelving, everything is getting moved around from where I am used to finding exactly what I want. Every time I go there something has been moved. Very irritating.

After playing with the new Manager interface a few times though, I'm beginning to get used to it. And it will definitely be more compatible for converting to a future Responsive version. So don't give up on it until you have a chance to get used to it. Check the search feature... that in itself is worth accepting quite a lot of change for!

2.3 is still in development. Hasn't even been a beta released yet actually so as lot will likely change. If you could let us know which branch you checked out (I assume modxcms/revolution) and specific issues that would be helpful.

There's a ton of activity going on regarding the new Manager in 2.3. Creating Manager themes will be infinitely simpler to do, also. If you reviewed the current dev branch, there's a lot of updates that will be coming in over the next few days that should improve the visual heirarchy, retina-display friendliness, overall UX and the way it feels in general. Much is still broken or incomplete while the transition is occurring, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a whirl again in a week or so. Thanks for your feedback!

Nightly build are apparently broken. You'll want to pull from the git repo:
              https://github.com/modxcms/revolution

There are a couple PRs of styling still floating around, and we are working on making theming the Manager much easier.
              https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/pull/628

There are some really great improvements to the tree coming soon thanks to TheBoxer.

Paul, I wouldn't be surprised if nightlies are broken again, but considering the rapid changes, it's easiest to build from git as then you can easily update to the latest or specific branches. Building from git isn't too difficult, just follow "Installation Process" here: rtfm.modx.com/revolution/2.x/getting-started/installation/git-installation

(Yes you are missing the UI updates)

Thank you for all your comments.

With regard to the new administration screen, I think I will see how things go for a little longer.

However, when installing CKEditor, the administration screen crashes. I would definitely like for this to be corrected.

Personally, I don't care all that much about Manager themes, though I know some people do.

What I'd really like is an easy way to modify the User and Resource panels to add custom fields of various kinds (text, dropdown, checkbox, etc.) that would not get trashed by an upgrade of MODX. At present, you can add new fields with a plugin (which I don't mind using), but AFAIK, they can only be added at the end of the form.
