Have you tried the suggestion in the message? It's not uncommon to have to create an empty MODX database before Setup can run.

Also, make sure that you also have credentials for a DB user with full rights to the MODX database.

I have a MODX database created before setup was run and all privileges set to that DB user.

            Thoughts?

I have also gone the route of creating a new user (modxTrial) and DB (modxTrial) with full privileges and no dice.

To confirm that my environment was not broken in some way I did a quick install of WordPress and it connected as normal to a DB that I created before installing.

Thanks to whomever can help me with this issue. I am looking forward to experiencing MODX as soon as I can get it installed!

I just don't know. I use MAMP and MODx always installs itself with no fuss. What version of MAMP? Which version of MODx (standard or advanced)?

Ouch! Installed MAMP 2.2 and now I get the same thing!

                  Bug report submitted.

In the meantime, you can always try a free MODx Cloud lab account (green button at top right of screen). [ed. note: sottwell last edited this post 12 years, 11 months ago.]

Thanks so much for the help. I knew I couldn't have been doing something that wrong. I will try to get an earlier version of MAMP and try again or give the MODx Cloud Lab a shot.

                    Thanks again.

Version 2.1.3 works just fine; if you have trouble finding a copy let me know and you can have mine.
