Answered Local Install won't test selection of created database - MODX REVOLUTION VERSION 2.2.9-PL

Description of Problem: Cannot install a fresh local version of MODX 2.2.9. I am new to MODX but very familiar with MAMP and local installs and this issue is troubling.

Connecting to database server: Success!

- Checking MySQL server version: OK! Running: 5.5.33
- Checking MySQL client version: OK! Running: 5.5.33


Steps to Reproduce: Ran setup and made it to the Connection Information to be halted at the connection error. Tried to install MODX 2.2.8 as well with the same error.

Expected Outcome: New install of MODX 2.2.9 to local server.

• Local Machine: Macbook Pro running 10.8.5
• MODX Version: 2.2.9
• PHP Version: 5.5.3 running MAMP 2.2


• Database (MySQL, SQL Server, etc) Version:
Database server
Server: Localhost via UNIX socket
Server type: MySQL
Server version: 5.5.33 - Source distribution
Protocol version: 10
User: root@localhost
Server charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)


• Additional Server Info:
Web server

Apache/2.2.25 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.25 OpenSSL/0.9.8y DAV/2 PHP/5.5.3
Database client version: libmysql - 5.5.33
PHP extension: mysql Documentation


• Installed MODX Add-ons: none
• Error Log Contents: (attach as file if it’s too large) Checking database: MODX could not create your database. Please manually create your database and then try again.

Have you changed the default MAMP MySQL user?

Have you tried the suggestion in the message? It's not uncommon to have to create an empty MODX database before Setup can run.

Also, make sure that you also have credentials for a DB user with full rights to the MODX database.

I have not changed the default MAMP MySQL user. Any suggestions on what to do with that said?

I have also gone the route of creating a new user (modxTrial) and DB (modxTrial) with full privileges and no dice.

To confirm that my environment was not broken in some way I did a quick install of WordPress and it connected as normal to a DB that I created before installing.

Thanks to whomever can help me with this issue. I am looking forward to experiencing MODX as soon as I can get it installed!

I just don't know. I use MAMP and MODx always installs itself with no fuss. What version of MAMP? Which version of MODx (standard or advanced)?

Thanks so much for the help. I knew I couldn't have been doing something that wrong. I will try to get an earlier version of MAMP and try again or give the MODx Cloud Lab a shot.
