If I get some free time I will see if I can setup a Vagrant environment with all these tools setup, so you can easily develop without worrying about all the Ruby Gems and Node Packages stuff.

I found that I needed to install rvm in order to properly install the ruby gems http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7018090/gems-cant-be-installed-as-non-root-in-os-lion

Thanks Susan. We are still trying to work out the docs and snags like this.

Please loop me in if you do, I'm looking into vagrant for a bunch of stuff right now.

Without wishing to side-track the conversation, is this planned for V3?
Bootstrap 3 has recently been released and I must say it's very impressive. I'd love to see the manager of V3 built within some kind of responsive Framework.

This is a nightmare. I've been over two hours trying to get all the tools needed installed. Apparently you can't get xCode any more except through the App Store, so I had to make an account with them and give them a credit card number - just to download and install a free package. <sigh>

definitely think this will limit the amount of people contributing... css/html is beautifully simple, it's a shame we are losing that.

I don't think this will limit contributions, this is the direction frontend development is going in terms of CSS Preprocessors, currently Grunt makes this workflow easier. I understand the amount of dependencies can become overwhelming, but once you start making use of them in every project, you will realise how much they increase your workflow.

I will try and build out a Vagrant box tonight to make this process less combersome, so that way you will only need to have Vagrant and VirtualBox installed then the rest is all done for you.

Just to note, currently there is nothing stopping anyone using Codekit to compile from SASS to CSS, just try not to check in the CSS and only the SASS file in that instance or make sure your SASS settings are the same as these https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/blob/develop/_build/templates/default/gruntfile.js#L81 if you want to check in your CSS file.
