Hi
I am a beginner when it comes to php, but i am alright designing websites etc and was told to give modx a go. I installed it on my server, and everything went fine, no error messages or anything. When i log in through the manager i am greeted with a very basic screen, with many buttons not working, and a white page where the content would be.
I have looked on the troubleshooting section of the modx website, and was guided to do the following:
Go into the DB using PhpMyAdmin and find the [table_prefix]_system_settings table (table_prefix is usually modx).
Find the rows with key "compress_js" and "compress_css" and set their value to 0 and save them.
Empty your core/cache/ directory.
Clear your browser cache and cookies
Log in to the manager.
unfortunately this did not resolve my issue.
I have the same issue using both chrome and safari. I have downloaded the latest MODX Revolution 2.2.8-pl. I am also using a mac (I don't know if this is relevant)
The attached image shows the page i am greeted with when i first log in. The two boxes within the content section 'News Feed, and Security Feed' both scroll within the box, listing some information. However when i click another page at the top, it is just a white page. I am also not able to click the log out button.
Is this a common problem with Modx Installation, or has anyone come across this before?
It happens from time to time. I'd recommend re-uploading the entire manager folder, manually clearing your cache (/core/cache/), clearing your browser cache and cookies, then trying again.

Hi
I have upgraded to MODX Revolution 2.2.14-pl (traditional) and I'm currently experiencing the problem described above. I've tried all your recommendations and the manager window keeps displaying the same issue. Has anyone figured out a solution to this?
Thans,
Alex
I'm also having the same issues as the OP. Same browsers, same OS, same Modx version. It happens from time to time that a user suddenly stops loading.
To keep clients happy I have been creating new logins for them each time and deleting old ones that have stopped loading. Far from ideal...
Any answers yet? This is causing me to rethink relying on Modx for future projects.

What kind of server are you hosted on? Sometimes a badly configured "cloud" or distributed server will lose the cache files. Also, check the server error logs to see if they have any errors that might shed some light on the problem.
I don't manage the hosting, but I believe it is a distributed server, so yes, that could be something to check out - thanks. If I find anything in that line I'll post it.

Unless they found a solution when I wasn't looking, Rackspace Cloud often has similar problems with Revo.
Last I heard, the MODX team had been working with the Rackspace support people, and never were able to solve the problem. As far as I could understand, it is something about locking or not being able to lock the cache files when MODX is trying to write to them, so the cache files get corrupted.
So, excuse my ignorance, but would I be correct in saying a manual clear of the cache may solve it?

It's always worth a try. You also might want to check your database tables, repair and optimize them.

In my experience, completely clearing the core/cache directory is the most likely fix for weird problems that show up after a site has been running fine. BTW, the CacheClear snippet will do it for you.
