Upgrading Evo to Revo - current thinking ?

Good news it seems to work of a fashion. The individual pages have imported in and Provisioner seems easy to set up.

A quick tip that's not clear in the http://modx.com/learn/modx-college/migrating-from-evo-to-revo/ help page is that the API key required is in the config.inc.php file from the 'revo' site.

The bad news is I have a number of errors, including
"Fatal error: Call to undefined method modX::logEvent() in /home/mcpytemp/public_html/core/cache/includes/elements/modsnippet/9.include.cache.php on line 205"

If I view the individual index page it gets a bit further but errors hint that all is not well, perhaps with Snippets.

I did click to import the snippets & chunks which may have been a mistake.

Presumably Chunks should be OK, but maybe do required snippets by hand ?

If the snippets are part of an extra (you can see which snippet has the ID of 9 for starters), you should remove them an install the matching Revo extra if there is one.

If they're custom snippets, you may need to rewrite them a line at a time (that one has a problem on line 205 -- once you fix that, it will show you the next one).

In your situation, I think I'd first get the Revo versions of any packages, then convert Ditto tags to getResources tags.

Then, I'd disable all plugins (by right-clicking on them in the tree) and disable all snippets without a Revo package in your main template (by putting a space between the opening brackets).

Then re-enable the snippets one at a time and fix their errors.

Then do the same with the plugins.

Also, periodically check the error log (Reports -> Error log).

In the end I reinstalled Revo and imported the old site again with Provisioner, but this time without the snippets or plug in's - just chunks. Provisioner works well based on my site.

Installing the wayfinder got the menu's working straight off so the site is mostly functional. Just, the FAQ's, Gallery & a feedback form based page to redo with new Revo add ons.

A couple of unexpected problems:

1. The Error Page redirect does not seem to work, although the ID is valid in the error_page setting.

"Not Found
The requested URL /sfg was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Edit: Strangely this now seems to be working now friendly URLs are up and running.



2. I'm struggling to get friendly URLs working. I've tried setting the .htaccess & the system setting but no joy. The tutorial didn't seem very clear with regard to setting up the htaccess file.

If anyone has any links to extra info for these problems that would be cool.

Good progress so far. FAQ's & Video's sorted based on the old solution, both just needing simple syntax edits to work.

This leaves me with a couple of things to resolve.

1. The Feedback Form. I was using eForm but I see that's not available for Revo. Any suggestions for a simple 'Form' plug in ?

2. The Gallery. I was using MaxiGalley which isn't available so I've installed the Galley component. While it seems fairly straight forward, it looks a bit ugly using the demo code. Can any one point me towards some nice examples or tutorials I can tinker with ?

All in all the transition from Evo to Revo for my site has been relativly straight forward using the tools available.

For eForm, you want FormIt, but it's tags for Tpl chunks are fairly different. FormItBuilder might help with that.

I've meant to port MaxiGallery for some time, but never seem to get around to it. There are several other galleries for Revolution to choose from, but I've never used any of them:

If you have not hundreds of images for each resource, you can use MIGX for your galleries.

should be possible to import all maxigallery-datas into MIGX-TVs with a little script.

Bruno17 Cheers. I suspect that MIGX may be beyond my understanding at the moment. I had a look at the tutorials but I probably need a more complete galley solution (if I understand it correctly).
