My clients have a tough time with Stagecoach for one reason: there is no easy way to go back and forth from the live resource to the staged one. How easy or hard would it be to add a button to go back and forth, like the way Babel works for multilingual pages?

That's a great idea, but it's been so long I couldn't say how difficult it would be. I will try to take a look, but it won't be for quite a while.

Installed the latest StageCoach update (1.5.0) with the "added buttons" and I can not find the buttons anywhere. Do they have to be enabled?

No, the plugin has to be connected to OnDocFormRender, OnDocFormSave, and OnWebPageInit. It's a bug in the installer. A new version (1.5.1-pl) is out that should fix this.
