Just signed up for my free Lab Plan to Dev a site on it. I don't see any FTP details for the cloud I've created. Have they moved or is FTP not available on Lab Plans?

I have just noticed that. Without some way to be able to upload files in bulk it is fairly useless
      • I'm hoping this is just an oversight for a new system; no SFTP access would render any web development pretty much useless, as you say.

        • Apparently, that is intentional. o.O

          • I am (almost) rendered speechless. Well, actually, it's more that I can't think of anything to say that wouldn't be rude and quite possibly unladylike as well.

This might possibly be acceptable if there were a Manager feature for uploading multiple files, or at least for uploading zip files and unzipping them in place. Consider the files required for many of the fancier new free templates. One I've been looking at lately has 54 images in four folders, 10 CSS files and more JS files and folders than I can be bothered to count. Would anybody care to upload these one-at-a-time in the MODx file manager?

            • I just confirmed this with the team responsible for Cloud. It is intended and a limitation they've put into place.

I am currently on the free 30 day trial and will be upgrading to a paid plan - if the lab plan had been in place without FTP access I would not have been able to evaluate the product properly...

Ryan, what is the thought behind this? Not being able to access SFTP or SSH makes a testdrive quite useless imo. Sure you could use vapor to do some stuff, but as Susan mentioned, an upload of let's say 100 files is not something you want to be doing in the file manager.

                    I agree with @sottwell -- ftp/sftp is a REQUIREMENT.
                    Please put it back.
Even the hosted ecomm sites have this, if they can do this, so can modxcloud.

I was going to test-drive moving our sites to modxcloud by using a lab site to start with.
Now I will not do this until and unless ftp/sftp on test/dev/lab modxcloud sites is enabled.
Now you've lost income from a potential customer who has gone on record here.

Thank you, Tom (aka lost customer due to no ftp/sftp)

No FTP/SFTP for lab plans means a lot less creative freedom for trial users. If taking MODX for a spin is the goal (without training wheels) they'd be better of doing a trial with another host.
