Thanks danya! Gave it a whirl and looking pretty great! I had to disable Rich Text Editor to get it to go like in your other instructions. There is some issue with width. Started out very narrow, see screen. Then when I resize the browser it widens a bit but not all the way across.

Is there going to be a way for a single user to have both Ace and TinyMCE? Say I want the Content block and certain TVs to be TMCE and some others built for just page development to use Ace. Is that even possible?

Either way thank's very much for getting it to work on the TVs!

Hm. I think a form customization rule might do the trick.

Eric SWD, are your TVS moved to a separate Tab? BTW, you can try CKEditor if you like smiley But it lacks of few important features.

I'll have to think about that to wrap my head around how to do it.

I'm not sure what you mean a different tab, but I dont' think so. My tabs are all default on this install. No form customization.

I'm taking a look at CKE now. Looks like an interesting hybrid of rich text and code editor, somewhat like TMCE but more simplistic. I actually like the big SOURCE button much better than TMCE's raw view function. Might just be the best solution for tvs for me.

One thing I don't like about Ace or Codemirror is the search function. I don't need anything other than the browser search. The annoying box popping up right in the way is no good. And if you're working in the editor you have to click outside it to use the browser search. And sometimes the browser search won't look within the editor.

Couple other things I don't like are the fact that I can't double click a word and highlight it in Ace, forget if Codemirror was the same. Can't imagine why it's like that. Also undo/redo only does 1 letter at a time unless I specifically highlight a section before deleting. So if I use line delete or alt delete undo goes through the 1 letter misery.

I really don't mind coding in plain text. But having color coded CSS, HTML and PHP pages would be nice. Also some kind of auto complete etc. I've gotten used to not tabbing in but to have that organization back would be nice as well.

So for me some of the features are nice, some just aren't important and other ones need to be better. Simple would be nicer, personally I'm not really looking for a replacement for Dreamweaver or PHPFire. Something with just code highlighting, and if it had autocomplete and also tab indent for that would be nice. All the rest of the features I can do without.

            Eric SWD, I meant tv_below_content = false

Browser search will not work within code editors. This is due to specific rendering techniques (for perfomance reasons). I completely don't understand why do you use browser search withing MODx for. But I'm going to provide custom keystrokes setting for all commands.

I can't double click a word and highlight it in Ace
This is strange. Editor does word selection on double click. What browser and OS are you using? Ace uses it's own click timeouts to detect double clicks. Maybe these are too different than yours, defined in your operating system settings?

Can't imagine why it's like that. Also undo/redo only does 1 letter
Yeas, it's boring. It was reported 2 years ago. If you have github acc, you can leave your word here: https://github.com/ajaxorg/ace/issues/300

Also some kind of auto complete etc
This is extra desired and almost coming feature. https://github.com/ajaxorg/ace/pull/1189

You should understand that web-based editors require much more efforts to implement some feautres, then desktop-based ones. Most important barriers are browser bugs, low performance and sandbox nature of webpage. The other thing is the less developers involvement, because of less web-editors usage.

The click error is intermiten on Chrome. Works until page refresh or save. On Firefox and Safari it doesn't work at all.

The browser search seems to work on all 3 but only with what's on the screen at the time. i.e. anything below the scroll doesn't get picked up.

I completely don't understand why do you use browser search withing MODx for.
I use the browser search for my CSS files, and sometimes my longer HTML templates. Just quicker than scrolling and hunting especially with a CSS file that can span many screens.

I don't want to get too far off topic here. I'm really grateful you brought Ace into MODX. Just looking for the best combo that works for my design/development style.

Gonna keep working with these on my current build to test thoroughly.

Also the attached screen shows what the TV looks like in Firefox with Ace set and your beta code. It spans the entire width but only after you do a browser size adjustment. When you first load a resource or refresh it goes back to all one vertical line. Both Chrome and Safari look like screen1. After browser resize they get wider but still wrap about 1/3 or 1/2 the box width.

Thanks again for all your hard work on Ace Danya.

Yes, I have noticed the same thing from time to time... the text in the editing field is all one character to a line. Rather startling.

                  Thanks for the input Susan.

Been thinking about this. How is this supposed to work for this?

If you want to have content and tvs for you to be ACE and for site users to have TinyMCE or CKEditor, you can set your user settings (which are the System Settings) different than those of the System. To selectively decide on which editor a field will use, that's not easily possible as far as I know. (I'd love someone to prove me wrong)

                      Thanks Jay,

I hear ya, I'm working on it.

Yeah I know about replacing the system settings for users. I've done a little bit of that for removing TMCE functionality and a couple other things. Was asking Miss Ottwell earlier about replacing them on a group level instead of individually. Kinda unrelated but has been on my mind. Might come into play for me soon.

CKE was nice for a short while. Except it collapses down code on save/refresh. For end users I'll probably just stick with TMCE, and Ace for myself and see how it goes. There was another one or two I found in the extras I installed but couldn't get them to show up.

Think they were eIrite and aloha. eIrite wouldn't work at all. I may not have gotten to testing aloha but it looks like it's built for a different language.

Seems I've just about exhausted all the current options. If there are any others to check out I'm open ears. Could be RTE's or code editors. Might as well test them all while I'm on a roll. Going to be snowed in for 2 days anyway wink On that note I'm gonna go check and see if the snow has started falling yet. OH SHIT! The damn car is still outside, hope it's not buried yet!
