Available package updates not shown in manager as available for updating

In the package manager available updates in repository ar not shown. For example the VersionX-package I installed is 2.0.0-pl as version 2.1.0-pl is available in repository on website [http://modx.com/extras/package/versionx] since 14 januari 2013. If I hit the "check on updates" button in manager it says no update available. This also appears for package Ace [installed 1.3.2-pl, available 1.3.3-pl]

Do you have the auto_check_pkg_updates System Setting on or off?

Yep, I checked it and setting is on. Did force it to unset it and set in again, but no luck ...

Did you happen to move your site, or change anything on the server?

Have you tried to upload a new copy of the existing VersionX transport.zip, and then check if it shows the update? Have you any errors in the MODX error log for package management?

Lately, package management hasn't been following paths very well for me, and when updates don't show like you describe it usually means the path is wrong. I have yet to find where that path is ultimately pulled from though, and new versions of existing transport.zip files have worked after uploading back to package management. There was talk about modifying the workspaces table to an absolute url rather than {base_url} but that wasn't considered best practice.

I wish I could say for sure that existing should show the update, but I didn't check when I upgraded it last week. I saw VersionX in the repository, and downloaded it. I will check a different site.

Noop, I did not move my installation or other changes to the server as far as I know of. Also placing the transportfile of the new version of VersionX or Ace won't show me update available in manager. No errors exist in my errorlog!

I did some checking on some of my customer sites on different hosting companies, but all the same! No updates available.

Also when version 2.0.0-pl of VersionX came available I also had to download it manually by the extra's within the manager. Downloading and installing is all fine, but no updates!

Ah, AFAIK, if you download and install a package using "Search Locally for Packages," you lose the ability to see updates in Package Manager for that package because the package has no "provider."

That said, there does seem to be some funkiness in the Package Manager update system lately.

I'm not entirely sure why, but I can confirm this issue is coming up more frequently lately..

Okay, so I did some digging and found out what bit of the request to the MODX extras server was messing it up, and it turns out to be related to the "supports" variable. Leave it out, and it does show the update (at least for VersionX). Passing on to people with the right access.. [ed. note: markh last edited this post 13 years, 8 months ago.]

Several people have reported that various extras of mine are not showing available updates. I install them with "Search Locally for Packages" during development, so I didn't notice it.

Not sure, but I believe it happens with packages I did install a rc, alpha or beta version and after pl-release uninstalled it and installed the pl-version.
Question: what is the function of the field release_index in table modx_transport_packages?

I'm talking out of my butt here, but I suspect it's a number based on the full package name suffix that allows MODX to tell which of two releases is newer.
