Charset & Collation During Install Possible problem why Installation Not Sucessful?

The only error is the one that occurred during setup
[2013-01-07 02:54:08] (ERROR @ /setup/index.php) An error occurred while trying to remove the setup directory.

I have installed MODx for the third time now (3 different sites) and each time the auto removal of the setup does not work.

So it is actually saving, just not returning properly after the save. Any errors in the Manager's error log? How about Javascript errors on the page?

Final decision has been made to move my sites to my goDaddy accounts. MODx on that server is running lightening fast. The manager is super responsive.

I could troubleshoot the install at myHosting til I am blue in the face, and probably still not have a complete grip on how, why or what the database is doing. They claim the default setting is utf8 unicode. For whatever reason, MODx setup must get confused and interjects latin1_swedish. Additional issue with the install—both times with this site—is that 4 needed directories do not get created, and had to be manually created and permissions manually set.

At goDaddy, the only issue I experienced was that I had to turn off compress_js and compress_css in order to get the manager interface to not display a blank white page.
Other than that all seems good for now with that install.

I strongly suspect that that's true now, but wasn't when you first installed MODX. They wouldn't be the first (or the last) host to blame their mistakes on a CMS platform.
