Hi all, I know this has been covered before many times ('cause I've read almost every post related to 500 errors in the forums), but it seems my problem is different.

    I'm trying a fresh install on a Linux CENTOS 5.8 i686 server.

    PHP 5.2.9
    MySQL 5.1.65-cll
PDO Driver for MySQL, client library version: 5.1.65

I've downloaded the latest Modx release 2.2.6-pl and I've uploaded via wget (ssh), also tried downloading and uploading via FTP (just the files and also as zip). (over and over again in every possible combination of ways for about three days)

I get through most of the installation stages and I get all the green checkmarks but when I press install I get the dreaded 500 error.

This is a fresh install in the root folder with nothing else installed.

    - My ht.access hasn't been renamed (I also tried .htaccess)
    - My server (VPS) has Modx installed on other domains so I'm pretty sure all requirements are met
    - memory_limit has been set to 256M
    - max_execution_time set to 300
    - I've made sure my permissions are 755 and 644

I've installed modx many time in the past and this is the first time I get anything like this, no matter what I do I get the 500 error and sometimes I get this other error:

[11-Dec-2012 17:31:13] PHP Fatal error: Class 'xPDODriver_' not found in /home/mydomain/public_html/core/xpdo/xpdo.class.php on line 1823

My host is trying their best to help and have told me they've verified that the server meets every requirement.

Does anybody have any ideas as to where to look next?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you check all the config file paths?

About halfway down, see all the file paths that should be checked.

Thanks Frogabog since it's a fresh install shouldn't all the config paths get set during setup?

It depends on the server, really. Weirder things have happened. It's worth a check at minimum, and then go from there if all is well.

          This is a root install?

            NM, I see it's a root install.

Check your database user permissions, in cPanel as well.

Also, go through your php.ini really well and make sure everything's set for MODX requirements.

Will do thanks Frogabog, I'll post back when I have some progress, at the moment my server support team is helping out checking the ins and outs and making sure the server fits, so I'll let you know what they've found out.

bedtime soon for me but with MODX's massive European presence, smart people are still around. You've checked all the other stuff I'd recommend, so I'm out of ideas anyway.
                  :~}

The only other thing I can think of is if the server has you on a temporary path for pre-domain deployment and the paths aren't set in the config files properly. It's possible...

I always forget... anything in the error logs?

My error log just showed this every once in a while:

[11-Dec-2012 17:31:13] PHP Fatal error: Class 'xPDODriver_' not found in /home/mydomain/public_html/core/xpdo/xpdo.class.php on line 1823

Thanks Lokamaya I'll give that a try

Checked your config file? Had the same issue along with someone else here: https://forums.modx.com/thread/80952/upgrade-from-2-2-5-to-2-2-6---parse-error?page=3#dis-post-446159
