Setting up a 404 page using error_page property - not working

Interesting, error_page doesn't work for me with Articles installed. I don't have a context setting.

This is just so weird. So it worked without the Context Setting, using only the System Setting for "error_page". Then I somehow lost (deleted?) the resource, so made a new one, assigned it to the error_page key in System settings, but now I'm back with the default 404 / 503 error page.

I have not setup any FURLs so my urls are all /index.php?id=123 when I got to /index.php?id=12abd I get the 404 / 503 error, but when I go to /404 or /test or /bla, I'm redirected to the homepage.

Then, in desperation, I tried to add the error_page key back to the Context Setting. Lo and behold, there's my 404 page.

This is just ridiculous, modx team, you can't ship a product with such unpredictable behavior.

Honestly, in my experience, it is not MODx. I believe it is directly related to Articles... but frankly, I'm biased and you shouldn't trust my opinion until you test it without Articles as your home page.

Note: I have had nothing but great experiences with MODx Revolution. I openly state that I am biased and dislike Articles very much. In all things Articles related, you must use your own judgement.
