Hi,
please see attached screenshot. I've created a simple page saying "404 - page not found" and have tried to add it in both the system and context settings, to no avail.
In the screengrab you see on the left hand side the 404 document with id 20, and in the right hand side the error_page property, to which I've added the value '20'.
Furthermore I've set the document to "published" and "hide from menus".
But when I go to mywebsite.com/blablabla I'm presented with the homepage.
Did I forget something?

Try from another browser where you're not logged in as admin. Do you see it there?
Have you made any changes to security settings (user groups, context access, etc.)?
Check your Plugins Elements for the OnPageNotFound event. One of these may be forwarding back to the home page (especially if the home page is an Articles Container). Also, you have to clear your cache before the setting will actually work.

Hey Fuzz,
Do you mean the Plugins in the Page Elements list? There's nothing like onPageNotfound there..
OnPageNotFound is a System Event. You have to open the Plugin and click System Events tab. Then scroll down and see if OnPageNotFound has a checkbox next to it. If it has a check box next to it, then it may be forwarding..
OnPageNotFound is specifically made to forward to find a page when a given URL is not found. If the Plugin is made to forward to the Home Page, then this is the behvior you are describing. As stated before, if your Home Page is an Articles Container, this is standard for Articles. There are other extras that will do similar or the same thing, however.
ArchivistFURL and ArticlesPlugin both fire on OnPageNotFound. So the question remains... is your Home Page an Articles Container?
Thanks for your response!
My homepage is indeed an Articles container.
For botgh ArchivistFURL and ArticlesPlugin the setting is like this:
OnPageNotFound [checked] System Default 0
So what do I set these to?
If you want them to work properly, you're stuck. If you disable the Plugins, then Archives and Comments will not work correctly. The only potential solution is to modify the ArticlesPlugin and ArchivistFURL to not forward to the "container" (your home page). The issue with this is that you will have to modify the files, themselves which will be overwritten if you ever patch Articles. I have done many modifications to Articles, but haven't done this yet. So, I have no instructions for you as of yet.

@dieomesieptoch,
I've tested your case.
It works on me, just by changing the error_page in your System Settings.
Only that.

Well I'll be damned. If I delete the context setting's error_page it works!
Thank you!
