It was bound to happen sooner or later:

I don’t expect that there will be many MODx issues related to migrating to PHP 5, but there’s a migration guide linked from the post above that may be helpful.
The vast majority of our sites are still running PHP 4, but I bet that won’t be the case in 2008.
Damn! Beat me to it! I was gonna post a mention of this myself!
Yeah, I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. In fact, I’m kind of glad that it has happened. Basically means we don’t have to worry about backwards compatibility much longer and we’ll finally be able to slim the code down a bit and use some cool OO stuff.
MODx already works ok for PHP 5.0 and 5.1. However, I think there are a few issues to address for PHP 5.2. Dropping support for 4.x will mean we’ll be able to create builds with greater support for all the 5.x version of PHP.

Update: Zap ... i’ve not run anything but PHP5.x with MODx since the beginning of MODx itself. Now for your own custom code in MODx, I can’t vouch.
There aren’t too many backwards-incompatible changes, so I don’t even think that my wacky custom code will break. But I wouldn’t be surprised if some folks had issues due to migrating from 4 to 5. I’ve seen a lot of problems with hosts upgrading core software (especially mySQL) without notifying anyone and breaking it in the process, so it might be a good idea just to be alert for posts that mention sudden problems and that seem as if they could be related to migrating.

Just FYI, xPDO was designed to provide a PHP 4 compatible way of transitioning to a more PHP 5-like, object-oriented approach. 1.0 will likely be built in this same paradigm, but I have already begun some preliminary work on xPDO 2.0, which would still be compatible with previous xPDO projects, but would offer E_STRICT compliance and a greatly-reduced code base (removing all of the workarounds and compromises currently employed to maintain PHP 4 compatibility). It will likely be trivial then to port the MODx 1.0 code base to xPDO 2.0...
Also, I’m not aware of any issues with PHP 5.2 and MODx. Can you elaborate on this point Jeff?

Not much of anything that is MODx specific...more like some issue that are more Windows specific.
