    Hello all,

I have never used MODX before but one of my clients has a MODX built site.
I am trying to edit the META tags but cant figure out how.
i dod some googling and came across this:
    http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/META_tags

which says to start off by going to manager/resources.

this creates a problem for me as there IS nothing labeled resources, at least not as far as i can tell.

the attached screenshot shows my options.

It looks like you are not logged in as a user with the correct permissions to see the stuff you need.

Also, editing the meta tags depends on how the original programmer did them. There are several ways to do them in MODX, but all of them will require you to see more of the Manager than you're seeing.

Ok i have been given more permissions.
when i go to edit the page i now have input boxes for meta description and meta keywords,
but when i input the info and save, the "general page data" says there are no meta tags.
I check the source code and no meta tags are sh0wing.

there is a drop menu titles "SEO Override" but i dont know what that does.

The orginal programmer said we now have full access but the site>home>info pane tells me my role is client.

shouldnt it say admin or administrator? or am i just used to other CMS's?

The default admin name is admin, but it can be changed. "Client" though, suggests that the original programmer is still the admin Super User. I'm rusty at MODX Evolution, so I can't give you detailed instructions, but see if you can get to where you edit roles and see if the "Client" user has all rights.

I've never heard of the "SEO Override" menu. It might be from an add-on component or some custom programming by the original programmer.

If there are no meta tags in the source code, you have the the opportunity to do it right and forget about the input boxes. The best method is to create a Template Variable for each type of meta tag you want.

For example, create a Template Variable called "meta_description" and attach it to your your main template and any other templates you want to show the meta description tag. Then put this tag in your template where you want that meta tag to appear:

          [*meta_description*]

Normally, that would look like this:

          <meta name="description" content="[*meta_description*]" />

The tag will be replaced by whatever you put in the TV for each page.

There's a great tutorial and example here: http://sottwell.com/how-template-variables-work.html.

              Try this:

              1. Click on "Clear Cache"
              2. Log out
              3. Clear your browser cache and cookies
              4. Log back in

If it looks the same, what the programmer told you is, politely speaking, "not factually accurate."

Seems to be working OK for me. In fact, I was a bit startled since I didn't even do anything and the image was there, since I'm logged in here with the same email address I used for my gravitar account, it just automatically pulled in the image. wholesale cosmetics wholesale watches

Tim, my guess is that the original Dev just set up template variables for the meta tags. Feel free to add me to Skype, I'd be happy to help you out.
