I am new to Modx, so forgive my ignorance. I created a couple weblinks that link to outside sites. I want to be able to call the weblinks from my footer. Is it possible to call weblinks, or are they just for lists. If it is possible, what does the code look like? I couldn’t find an answer for this anywhere.

    Thanks

You can link to it as to any other document: [~document ID~] ...
or generate a simple list with Wayfinder.
      Does this help?

I must me doing something wrong. I have a weblink that is listed in the document tree like so... CSS (11) . I tried to call it with... [~11~] . The output on my page is... index.php?id=11 , instead of the link... CSS. What am I doing wrong?

index.php?id=11 is the link! just place it inside an <a>-tag:
          <a href="[~11~]">Linktext</a>

I have to ask, what is the benefit of using weblinks for links in the footer?
Why not just make a chunk in the MODx manager that contains the links you want in the footer and then call the chunk in your template. That way if you need to update or change the links, you only change one chunk.

Is there something specific you are trying to do that requires this to be a weblink? It seems unnecessarily complicated.

Yes, it is unnecessarily complicated. I am just try to learn all the different features of Modx, so I am most likely doing everything the most complicated way possible. I actually did create a chunk to place the links in. I just figured this would be a good opportunity to figure out how to use the weblinks for future reference. Thanks for all the help.

                no problem.
Hey, there is no better reason to do something than "to see how it works" in my opinion! laugh
Keep going with the investigation. As far as the link showing up as "index.php?id=11" instead of what you were expecting, it is most likely one of 2 things.

                1) The weblink document did not get an alias.
The fix: log into the manager, edit the weblink, and give it an alias.

                2) Friendly URL’s are not on in the Tools > Configuration tab. (although I doubt that is the problem as you seem pretty comfortable with most of MODx already).

I did what raum suggested, and now I can call my two weblinks from the the chunk. I just have to say, I have only been using this cms for a few days, and I am really impressed with it and this forum. The community is outstanding. Hopefully I am done doing the cms shuffle. Now I am off to make more simple tasks way too complicated. grin Thanks for all the help guys.
