I have a site set up using revo 2.2.0pl and there hasn't been any problems until recently. Once inside the manager, if any single document is selected from the document tree on the left hand side, dozens of line-break tags are inserted into the page. I've been trying to solve this for some time, it's the first time i've ever used modx, and can't find any solutions or resources as to how and fix this. It's obviously a major issue since the site cannot be updated at all.. I have posted on this previously with zero response so i guess this is another last ditch attempt to reach out and see if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction.
Are you using Tinymce, if so what version ( IE: has someone updated it to the latest version which would explain why it's suddenly broken )
I am using tinymce, and i did just update it in the last couple of hours from 4.3.1 to 4.3.2, but this was a bid to try and resolve the problem, since this has been happening for a while now. I thought maybe updating tinymce might help..
At first, my initial reaction when i seen the problem happening was that it was down to tinymce. But then my client made a change to just to freindly-url field and that rendered the page completely out as well, placing loads of line breaks all over the place.. Now it's even worse so that just opening the manager and clicking on any document in the tree automatically throws in a load of breaks.
Can you deactivate tinymce to see if the line breaks are still being put in when the page loads without it, at least this will narrow it down if there not
When you say deactivate it, would that be in system settings- 'Enable Rich Text Editor' and select- No. Before your suggestions on this post I was going to either remove or uninstall it via package management, but wasn't sure which of the two options i should take, or if there was any difference. Also, i wasn't sure if there where any other precautions i should take before doing this.
Is this happening with snippets and chunks too? If not, it's almost certainly TinyMCE.
You might try (in this order):
- uninstall and remove all versions of TinyMCE
- delete all files in the core/cache directory
- clear your browser cache and cookies
- download and re-install TinyMCE

PLEASE, PLEASE specify the version of MODX you are using.
MODX info for everyone:

I've just followed the steps you outlined Bob, and after logging back into the manager, Tinymce is still listed with the orange Update button highlighted next to it. Given that i've just gone thru all these steps to remove it, should this still be listed in package management like this? i'm not sure if this is normal and whether to take the last step of installing it again seeing as it appears to still be installed..
Do a force removal and then:
- delete all files in the core/cache directory
- clear your browser cache and cookies
- download and re-install TinyMCE
