The same concept should apply to iCal feeds. The only thing you'd need is an iCal template to start. You could also use an RSS to iCal converter, like the one found here:

Thanks for the resources. Hopefully last question:
I did the steps outlined
Created new resource (empty Template)
Changed Resource to XML
Inserted the mxCalendar Snippet call on said resource
Went to the URL and it output and XML page
Copy/Paste URL to the textbox1.com like and downloaded iCal file
Imported .ics file into iCal and nothing shows up, nothing happens, no error message, just a blank Calendar
Tried changing Resource to RSS and the converter site didn't like that.
Tried "Subscribing" to the calendar in iCal with the RSS/XML pages - no go

Did you check to see if you can even view the xml file in a browser? if there's nothing at the link, then there is a broken piece somewhere.
Just an update on this - I have successfully implemented this in a development site, so I know it's possible. However, Calendar on the Mac is particularly temperamental when dealing with imported ICS files. From my reading, this is most likely due to the inclusion of iCloud. Please keep this in mind. The best way to get these events into Calendar is to import your ICS into Google Calendar (as long as it's valid - there is a validator here:
http://severinghaus.org/projects/icv/), and then subscribe to that feed within the Apple Calendar application.
Personally I use EventsCalendar2. I find that teaming it with getResources you can do quite a lot. There are a couple draw backs in that you can't have reoccurring or multi-day events, but last time I played with mxCalendar even though multi-day events were available the calendar didn't highlight anything but the first day. This may have changed since then. I have not worked with ChurchEvents yet.
With EV2 you can create any size calendar and style them however you want and teaming with getResources you can create event lists to show X number of upcoming events to display however you like, say in a sidebar. All the events are created on their own page. So you can customize the templates to display them as you like. It's not perfect but I really like how solid EV2 is. You have to have friendly URLs enable, but other than that no glitches. It's rock solid and simple to use. You can also of course get formit in there to handle the event registration. I have used it with PayPal for paid reservations and works just fine.
Hi calendar experts
I am looking for a solution for a task as I a building a website for a client.
What I need is a method to book times in a calendar for registered/logged in users.
It would be for a renting solution eg. renting boats.
There will be multiple items to be rented.
Any ideas on what route to take or if there is already something similar done in modx?
thx
There is no plug and play add-on that will do what you want, as far as a fully automated reservation system. You would most likely have to hire a developer to create something that robust. I don't have your full scope, but if you need it to be able to rent multiple different items on an hourly basis that's a lot.
