I have been having a ton of issues with Articles. First I didn't have the right version of MODX installed and then I didn't have the right version of Articles installed. That being said I upgraded MODX to 2.2.1 but when I tried to upgrade Articles to 1.5.1 it broke the whole Articles installation. I tried deleting Articles through the Packages directory and then simply through FTP but I can't. Somehow they are still in there so I can't re-install anything. I even tried changing the name of the folder on the server but MODX still shows that it is installed. I realize there is probably a database issue going on to where it is still holding on to the last installation of Articles but I don't know where to change this.

I had to use an ftp program to delete all the stuff created by articles.

        My story:
I just tried to install Articles on a fresh install of 2.2.1 and it failed - it seems that Quip was missing see this bug report - http://tracker.modx.com/issues/7560

I tried to reinstall, removing things, redownloading, download quip separately and so on - but nothing worked.

So I removed everything (with the manager) - but this did not remove everything so...
I used my ftp program to delete everything in the core/components and core/packages directories (well I actually left wayfinder, core and .gitignore alone)

        Then:
        1 - downloaded Articles 1.5.1 and Quip 2.3.0
2 - installed Articles - it did so without complaint - Quip was not installed
        3 - installed Quip

I have not yet tested fully whether everything works, I have set up a blog so looks promising.

One more odd thing - Articles installs getresources 1.4.2 - but if you look for the extra it is called getResources - the system believes them to be the same extra so maybe the capitalization does not matter - however I had an issue with an 2.2.1 upgrade and I know that when I upgraded getresources it spells it getResources 1.4.2 - probably nothing but...

Whistlemaker thanks for the reply. I tried that but for some reason I can't delete the files via FTP. It may be a Media Temple issue why I can't delete those files since I can delete other files but I'll keep trying it and then reinstall

Thanks for the info about getResources.

Let's try to not get too close with deleting stuff from the filesystem just like that... like you say, there's stuff in the database related to the packages.

            Let's first remove the package.

System > Package Management. Click the "remove" button under Articles. Tick "Force removal" - this is now needed cause it can't find the files and otherwise it will cancel. Assuming nothing too funky is going on, you should no longer see the package in the grid.

Now once again download the package via Package Management and try to install it.

I'm not going to lie, I tried your idea Mark about 10 times before you wrote your reply but somehow it worked this time. Not sure what was different but it uninstalled. Will try re-installing it all again.

              Thanks!

Like I wrote before I has the very same problem. I tried to uninstall, remove, upgrade, downgrade but Nothing worked. In the end I had to manually delete all files via FTP before the "remove" functionality worked.
When I finally got rid of Articles I went for a clean installation. That didn't work either! I had to manually install Quip to finalize the process.

I even tried to uninstall once more because I was curious if things was better after my clean install. That didn't work either..zZz...

Are you all getting consistent "cannot load package metadata" errors during installation of packages with this?

I ran into this initially on a fresh install of 2.2.1-pl and did much the same with deleting all the package files and folders, then to re-install. First install Quip, then install Articles.

Regardless, I still get this package metadata error. It's not only the Quip and Articles packages either.

I might get yelled at but as a last resort since nothing had worked I tried changing the permissions of the core directory to 777 and all sub-folders and after that I was able to delete the files through MODX like you are supposed to do. I will change the permissions back but that worked.

Just an idea but be weary if you try that method. Just saying it worked for me after I had tried everything.

Lol, I wouldn't advise your tactic, but hey if it works for you wink Can't say it's very secure but it may work.

No worries, that's a harmless error. All it means is that there's no metadata.php file within the package, which is used in some packages to show class inheritance. It's automatically generated when the package is built on MODX 2.2, packages built from older versions don't have it and it will give that error.

Again, nothing serious to worry about.

In other news, it looks like the latest articles build indeed needs a bit of a nudge and could provide some issues, looks to be specifically a problem with Quip that was just confirmed and will be fixed later today.
