I’ve been trying to get my arms around MODx the past few days after pretty much giving up on Drupal (due to a number of factors, but not the least of which is its convoluted access control setup). One thing among many which attracted me to MODx was the access control mechanism. Now that I’ve begun working with it, however, I’m finding that perhaps I may not be able to do what I’d like to. Hopefully I’m just overlooking something.

Here’s what I want to do...

I will have sets of pages associated with various committees of an organization. I’d like to set things up so that each committee chair can add/modify/delete pages within their own part of the site. However, the pages still need to be viewable by other users, including anonymous (not logged in) users.

The issue I’m seeing is that once I add a document to any document group, I lose the ability to have that page viewable by anonymous users, and for other logged in users, I essentially need to finagle a bunch of group settings to make it possible.

Am I missing something here? Or is it really not possible to do what I’m attempting.

    Thanks!

For my current project, I am diving head-first into the security (as we speak) and am also very excited about the security features. However, it doesn’t require Public access for the documents/sections, and therefore I haven’t run into this issue.

Now I am also curious, is there not a way to assign a document to a document group (for manager permissions) without affecting accessibility?

          Thanks! Yes, it does.

As was mentioned in that thread, the way things work is indeed somewhat confusing. But at least it is possible to set a reasonable configuration that does what I need. And that’s a good thing.
