      I am really happy to hear talk of conversion to jQuery instead of MooTools, that is awesome. It would be great to have the option to exclude the extra jquery call in the "Quick Manager" front end so that jQuery is not included twice when previewing the site.

      Are these improvements something that will be officially sanctioned / supported by the Modx team as an official release? [ed. note: nickf08 last edited this post 14 years, 6 months ago.]

        I was editing a friend's WordPress site yesterday and noticed one thing they do really well is providing options for menus and plugins as checkboxes, as well as the option to code manually. I guess the check boxes are to appeal more to end users than web workers but worth a thought.

        This could apply to Evo with Ditto, Wayfinder, Eform etc.
        Eg create a ditto call: checkbox for showin menu only , checkbox for show published only, etc...
        Probably too time consuming and tricky to do but I thought it was a nice touch on WP.

        edit - what was I thinking. I take it all back. copy and paste is easier and faster.


        I also thought the WP plugin installation was super fast and easy, and much nicer that Revo. [ed. note: nickf08 last edited this post 14 years, 6 months ago.]

          I have made some WP themes from scratch and I think that although these options are cool, I wouldn't like to see them on MODX, I'd rather copy-paste a snippet call from one template to another (or just store the snippet call in my html editor, for example in notepad++ with FingerText plugin), instead of clicking 200 checkbox to do the same thing.

          A good example of this problem is MODX Revolution Form Customization compared with MODX Evolution ManagerManager. FC looks cool, but has less options than MM and takes ages to configure (because you have to click many checkboxes to do so). I wouldn't mind to have a better interface, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense.

          I also thought the WP plugin installation was super fast and easy, and much nicer that Revo.

          I agree, WP plugin installation is super cool, and easy. I also like the ability to select a template and apply it to the whole website in few seconds, but I think it wouldn't work on Evolution. Each website is different, due to MODX flexibility, so it would be impossibile to apply a theme that works out-of-the-box.

            Fantastic re the manager themes.

            Actually you raise a really, really, really good point there microcipip. You are right re Form Customisation vs Manager Manager - copy / paste is DEFINITELY quickest to use and also the easiest to replicate. Checkboxing options complicates things. It seemed nice when I did it in WP (because I am not very familiar with it) but I MUCH prefer copy and paste. I take it all back - Woops, I got carried away there with its smoothness.

              I have noticed three things during the redesign of the manager:
              1. There are lot of tables, they must be removed in future versions of MODX Evo, otherwise it will be very difficult to make the manager look nice.
              2. Some dropdown menu and input field have the same name in different areas of the manager, so if I try to fix the graphic in page x, page y and z will break. There should be an ID for each area or at least there should be a pattern to follow, some pages have different html so it is impossible to fix only with CSS, I'd have to hack the html in the core.
              3. On IE9 the calendar tv doesn't seem to be working. Is there anyone still using IE laugh?

                As far as having blocks to add, a checkbox TV that allows individual item ordering per page is all that's needed. We already have an easily implemented checkbox TV, all that's necessary is to have a custom TV with the ability to sort the checkboxes so the resulting blocks appear in the order desired.

                  If I understand you right you can exclude QuickManager+ jQuery from front-end. Just take a look in QM+ plugin configuration: "Load jQuery in front-end"
