Sorry for all the questions, I am a bit new to MODx, it porbably shows!
The site is not on the www root of the site but on a temporary directory called new.mysite.com any change that this could be the source of my problem? Is there a way of reinstalling tinyMCE without reinstalling the full MODx?

No, I did not update tinyMCE manually, I just ran the standard installer.

Thats really odd. It should not matter if the MODx installation is in a subdirectory.
Have you tried to install MODx locally?
Maybe some JavaScript or other File is missing. You can check this by looking at the loaded Files using the "Net" Tab in Firebug. If a filename is colored red, the file is missing (or not readable).

I had the previous version of MODx installed on the local machine and all was working fine. I’ll check that out. I might install the new version on the local machine and see if I get the same issues.

          Thanks

Did you moved the files to the sub-domain/folder after the MODx installation?, if so there was some must configure things for RTE’s like TinyMce, that may cause a problem if you don’t take care of those properties, i dont remember what exactly but i’ll get back to you if i find.
