I’m trying to set up a system for a web user to easily upload pdf files and have links to them displayed on a public page. The FileUpload snippet looks close, but I’d like to have a document title as a link to each pdf file rather than the file name.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Personally, you could pretty easily use eForm or a custom snippet to get this done, provided you have knowledge of eform or PHP, etc. As I have not dealt with any existing MODx add-ons for this job (other than eForm), it is the best advice I have!
Thanks,
Isn’t eform primarily designed to email people a form rather than create a document when logged in as a web user?
I was thinking it might be easiest to re-write MaxiGallery since it already does, conceptually, exactly what I want only with pictures rather than .pdfs. I think that would be easier than coding what I want from scratch since the user interface is what usually takes all the time and MaxiGallery has a great built-in user interface.

Hi there,
I’m looking to revise some of the Maxi-Gallery code but I’m not expecting to have an easy time of it due to my PHP and ModX in-experience. I’m planning on revising the features that are displayed/dealt with, for example ditch the Description part of it to make room for a quicktime link/path and hack in some code to make MaxiGallery allow quicktime playback etc.
Maxi-Gallery does have an existing set of CSS and templates which I can alter and so on but I’m like yourself and wanting to expand the feature-set of MaxiGallery itself further than it currently is.
Anyone got any good starting points on this one?
Cheers

this is one of the things that makes MODx great, it’s easy to work with the snippets and that’s a great way to learn PHP and MySQL.
hehe, fair play

I’ll ask some more specific questions when I get real stuck!
Indeed ModX is brilliant for that very reason as well as the hot rocking functionality.

I think if you simply provide a link to a media file (e.g. .avi, .mov) on the web page, the browser will hand it off to the appropriate player. You’ll need to modify the allowable upload file types in MaxiGallery and decide whether you want them saved as files or stored in the database. I would think you’d also have to turn off MaxiGallery’s sizing routines for files of those types.
If you get it working, please report back on what you did. I’d also like to add .avi files through MaxiGallery and I’m sure others would as well.

@BobRay
You can easily do this with two snippets called FileUpload & FileDownload.
FileUpload can let registered users upload files
FileDownload can display filename, image, description etc. to the general public
Both are in the repository I think

Yes, they’re in the repository. Thanks!! Now I don’t have to write them.
The reason I didn’t find them in the repository: I was looking under "u" for "upload" rather than "f" for "file upload."
