    Hello!

    I am getting some error messages, not consistently, but occassionally when I am using the manager. There was an issue with my host, you can see that post here:

    http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,13882.0.html

    but I am not sure if the two are related or not. Here are the error messages:

    Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/data/tmp/sess_fd4e69b085d396a391082f5ed401dcb2, O_RDWR) failed: Read-only file system (30) in /data/12/1/136/35/1136687/user/1207121/htdocs/manager/includes/config.inc.php on line 46

    Warning: Unknown(): open(/data/tmp/sess_fd4e69b085d396a391082f5ed401dcb2, O_RDWR) failed: Read-only file system (30) in Unknown on line 0

    Warning: Unknown(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/data/tmp) in Unknown on line 0

    My guess is that it is, but I’m not sure. I applied the fix from Pixelchutes in the other post and the site is working fine, no errors showing in the log, but occassionally get the error message when I try to save a page, or do other work.

    Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

      @ej,

      This appears to be a permissions issue. You could try modifying the perms, but since it’s a shared server, chances are you won’t be able to.

      Alternatively, you could try manually declaring your session save_path by adding the following to your .htaccess file.

      php_value session.save_path "/data/12/1/136/35/1136687/user/1207121"

      I’m not sure /data/12/1/136/35/1136687/user/1207121/ is the location where you want to save session data, or if the directory is even writable, etc. I simply chose it because I believe that is your home directory, and is below www root. (not accessible via browser)

      If that doesn’t work, you may be able to try:

      php_value session.save_path "/tmp"

      or you could create a session folder in your www root, and change the permissions. (chmod 666 maybe?)

      php_value session.save_path "/data/12/1/136/35/1136687/user/1207121/htdocs/session"

      ...not being on the server to know the available directory structure, I’m simply taking a shot in the dark here. Point is, you can manually declare your session.save_path, it’s only a matter of saving in the appropriate place, with the appropriate permissions.

          @Ryan, sorry about that, on duty this morning and had an emergency call to answer (see avatar grin).

          Here is my specs (soon to be added to signature line):

          MODx 0.9.5 rev. 2106 with no major changes.

            Network solutions recently "upgraded" their servers which changed the session handling. You’ll need to fix that.

              I had a service request in with them, and their response was that the issue was ’fixed’. I guess their fix, didn’t.

              Should any of the ideas from Pixelchutes work, or is it best to go through NS to try to resolve it again? I had set the paths in the config.inc.php file yesterday and it resolved the issue of getting the extroneous markup in the addresses for the pages, etc.

              Thanks!

                Ok, digging a little deeper, it appears as though the session.save_path is set to: /data/tmp

                Since I have no control over the php.ini file because of Network Solutions setup, what is the best way to handle this problem?

                Any ideas, or if more info is needed, please let me know....thanks!
