Looking at the release notes for Wayfinder 2.3.2 there's certainly been a change in the Resource Group handling. It says:
"Add "protected" placeholder that is 1 if Resource is protected by a Resource Group"
I'm pretty sure something has been introduced that is causing the double item phenomenon. At present, I'm seeing this in a development situation. When I go live with the site in a couple of weeks I will certainly need to resolve the issue.
Before you re-installed the earlier Wayfinder version, did you actually try removing the allocation of one of the two resource groups to see if the double menu disappeared?
If either you or someone else was able to replicate what I described above, a bug could be probably be filed.

Actually, I have not rolled back wayfinder nor did I change any permissions. I created a work around with a new document before I saw your posting. Only then did I realize the problem might be with the permissions.
The original document is still on my client site although hidden from the menu. If I uncheck this, it appears on the menu twice. So the condition does exist on my client site, which is live.
If someone, more knowledgeable than I wanted to inspect this for purposes of documenting a bug, I could talk with my client about providing access to someone for a short while to check this out.

Terry, if you delete the new document and undelete the old one, do you still get two entries in the menu (after clearing the cache)?
If so, you should definitely report it as a bug. I would title it something like this:
"Doc in two resource groups appears twice in menu"

If I publish the original resource, it appears twice in the menu. If I remove one of the two resource groups assignments, and refresh, it appears in the menu just once.
