The light gray items should only appear if you're logged in. It was intended to help you focus on the items that you have not read yet, or that have no new replies in a thread, the theory being if you've already been there/done that ... That being said, it may be a bad convention. (Yes, we are working on a dedicated "show me stuff I've not read yet that I've either posted in or subscribed to" view.)
1) Hard to read, no clear info about posts (who when, who and when started). You have to re-focus your vision, cause of character size differences, low contrast colors of forums and posts
We do have more information coming over in the next push. If my memory serves me correctly, it's something along the lines of:

started by username last month, last post by username2 today
What more would you like to see?
2) Almost no search options, No way to narrow results by date, no sorting. Search option gives you usually mostly useless old posts for for Revo user and if I have to use to visual style (p.1) I give up.
Don't give up! We are listening.
Search is really important for us and we want to get the next update to Search to be much better. Can you expand on this some more, preferably in a report on our issue tracker (or here is fine for general discussions).
