I'm still struggling to get Gallery fast and tried a lot of things. I've decided to move away from the Galleriffic plugin and try to use the basic functionality in Gallery to make an album. The idea is as follows:

    Year
    -- Albums
    ---- Photo's

So the user can choose a year, following by the event, and then pictures become visible. This biggest hassle is to make this fast, because some albums contain over 400 photo's. Since ModX and picture/thumb loading goes very very slow, I need to find a way to divide an album into multiple pages (with the thumbs).

I was wondering if anyone would know of a good solution to load an album with thumbs devided over multiple pages? The tutorials I found only give me information about loading and viewing whole albums on one page... sad

I've done a little testing myself. I was almost thinking it's my server that makes things slow. I've installed Modx on another server (also based in my country) The test was as follows:

      - A clean install of Modx 2.1.3
      - Gallery 1.2.2
      - The home template not changed, only added the call
      [[!Gallery? &album=`test`]]
      Also tried without the !

In the test album i have 394 photos width a resolution of 600x900 (around 200-250kb per picture). I've changed nothing to the configuration described above, so with the simple call to show the test album in Gallery I get 394 thumbnails of my images. The images are added trough the "batch upload" method

I've timed the performance and was shocked of what I got. It took exactly 2 MINUTES to load!! This can't be normal. On the same server we run a self-made album script (outside of any CMS) that loads the same 394 images. The thumbnails are even a little bigger. This only takes 4 seconds to load! What on earth is Gallery doing with these images when loading them up? I've tried everything, opened a lot of topic's and posts, but no one seems to know whats going on.

I'm wondering if you would try the same (an album with around 400 pictures and the same simple call), what your performance would be?

*bump* The site is live now, and I'm getting the first complaints about the gallery being pathetically slow. sad Still, I've checked everything, used several hosting providers and getting very very very slow performance. The only thing I can imagine is the lack of imagemagick support from several hosts. Some gallery pages load in over 2 minutes. The gallery is slow as hell.

I've had several topics about this:

        https://forums.modx.com/thread/69722/image-processing-very-slow-in-revo#dis-post-391576

        and

        https://forums.modx.com/thread/?thread=50714&page=1

I also suggested to make a feature to prevent all thumbs from preloading. I've used the lazyload colorbox tutorial, but still things are very slow:

        Someone please help!

I'm having the same issues with galleries containing over 200 images. I have some from races that have upwards of a thousand images.

I'm new to MODX so the learning curve is going to take some time to overcome. If I find a fix I will surely post it up. Have you found any solutions yet?

My first guess is that we need to be able to get caching on the galleries going. However, when I turn caching on the first gallery is the one that shows up for me persists afterwards no matter which galleries i navigate to afterwards. My inclination is it has to do with the URL and the galleries differentiating with $_GET parameters. Just a guess though, I do not yet know how MODX hadles caching, onward and upward!

          Cheers,
          Ryan

Added some pagination to the snippit, removed galleriffic, problem solved. [ed. note: serotonin last edited this post 14 years, 8 months ago.]
