I have some pages on a site that are private. You have to log in as a web user to see them. My client is getting a bit confused because they want to use Quickedit to edit those pages. What is confusing them is the fact that they have to log into the manager as an editor first and then log into the web site as a web user to see the pages. They don’t understand this.

Is there an easy way of viewing private pages on the site while logged into the manager, without having to log in as web user?

      Hi,

perhaps you should have a look to a plugins which synchronize user/webuser account.
I don’t remeber its name but you should find it in the repository.

      :-)

EDIT: here it is =>Web2Manager created by xwisdom http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,293.0.html

(to heliotrope…)

I am always also in the search of an effective means to have access to the contents of the site without having has to pass by the manager, and that so that the “Web user” can modify the menu, with the management of photographs, the addition of headings… (in addition to the contents). (pour heliotrope…) (thangs google for translation)

I don’t think there is a way to achieve what you’re looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve already spent some time explaining to them that web users and manager users are completely seperate. I think that synching two users will make it more complex and hard for me to explain.

Please use English in the common areas, or supply a translation yourslf. Here’s a Babel Fish translation of cquiec2’s words, although intriguingly it’s wobbly on the bits I didn’t understand either.

Alas. No means of modifying a document without passing through the manager? I do not see myself indicating to my customer whom it is necessary that it changes the functions of the snippets "trucmachin" to add a heading on his site. If so, has to you it there another CMS to propose? good, let us give the hands in the engine.

Users can modify documents without using the manager - if you write a script that web users can use. But the Manager can only be used by Manager users, and QuickEdit uses the manager.

But that’s not the problem in the top post anyway! The problem is apparently that the manager user can’t see a page that only certain web users can see. This is despite the following text:

Administrators (users who have been assigned the role with ID 1) always have access to all documents, so they don’t need to be added to any groups.
Surprisingly their access is seemingly limited to the Manager features. Some quick tests show that this is indeed the state of MODx even in 0.9.5 (rev 1557 at least).

Essentially, if a Manager has been granted access to a page, they should have web access to that page. But they don’t. Is that right?
I’ve not checked to see if this is already in the bugtracker.

Plus there is no way to get to those pages, if they are hidden behind a login. It may be possible to enter index.php?id=n if you know all the values of n for the private pages, but that isn’t user friendly for clients who don’t understand how MODx works.

I guess one possible solution would be a Quickedit menu that shows all the documents on the site, so the user can jump to any one without having to log in as a web user.

On one site, I have a hacked QuickEdit menu that leads to a number of "secret" pages (they are public, but not on the menus).
One of the secret pages lists the unpublished pages, so she can get to them.

Also, I have MODx configured to go straight to one of these secret pages when they log in rather than the Manager.

It’s important to me that I can upgrade MODx. So maybe I should post this on the wishlist forum? It doesn’t seem like there is an existing solution to my problem.
