And when you say "it’s taken this long", you’re talking crap. A perfectly valid answer was given within 2 hours of your post. You then came back 5 days later suggesting that you still had trouble - although it is unclear whether you had actually read the 2nd post because none of it seems to have sunk in.

I’m not convinced that you’re reading everything we say. Please read what people take the time to write in response and do your best to comprehend it.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

Paul I simply clicked on the "download" icon,
      and dowloaded this file:

      modx-0.9.2.1.zip
      http://modxcms.com/assets/snippets/filedownload/download.php?path=YnVpbGRz&fileName=modx-0.9.2.1.zip

Surely this is the correct file?
I also used snipurl to shortern the URL, then used wget in linux command line to get the file
then extract it, hence why I know 100% all files are there, this is also how I installed phpBB and wordpress files.

I followed instructions to the letter, previosly I installed phpBB and wordpress on the same server with a similar process, without any problem what so ever.

It was only today I got a amazingly astute suggestion from sottwell, which fixed the problem, I’m still non the wiser! That’s quite a period of time, I’m sure it not much to ask for FAQ checklist and common problems guide?

Both phpBB and wordpress provide extensive support for install problems in the form of FAQs, I assume because they’ve been around longer.

I still don’t know how to fix quickedit so it works.

Rather than keep trying to pin me as the problem, why not try to help and write a FAQ or tell
me how I can fix the problem? Clearly people like sottwell do have the positive mental atitude and modx knowledge to help,
I’d appreciate if you could keep focussed on the problem at hand, not get too distracted and turn a plea for help into your own personal flame war. We all want modx to do well. You can start by helping me, then I’ll start writing the install FAQ. Since newbies like me clearly need one, and no-one is putting their hand up to write one.

Have you done what Mark and OpenGeek have allready adviced, that is uploaded your files again? Sometimes ftp client’s mess up the uploading when there are many small files to upload..

you could also try to upload just the folder assets/modules/quickedit to see if that fixes the quickedit problem.

Sorry, but we can’t actually provide support without questioning what you have done and it is unreasonable to expect us to produce a list of solutions when we don’t fully understand your problem.

Well, the error "No such file or directory" rather suggests that all files are not there.

Also, if you are using wget to get the file and extract it, then that’s already deviating wildly from the Installation instructions.
            and thus
I followed instructions to the letter, previosly I installed phpBB and wordpress on the same server with a similar process, without any problem what so ever.
            is dubious.

Yes, they have had problems with a greater frequency, and thus greater experience with problems from which to devise an FAQ. We cannot create an FAQ without the answers.

I’d appreciate if you could keep focussed on the problem at hand, not get too distracted and turn a plea for help into your own personal flame war.
Fair enough, please keep your posts focussed on your problem and avoid berating us for not providing you with an FAQ.

So, to adopt a positive attitude to this, and ignoring entirely the level of hysterics, can you please

            1) Confirm whether you have gotten this working.
            2) Confirm whether you have tried uploading the files in the normal way as detailed on the instructions page.
and if you still have a problem:
            3) Produce a file listing of your assets folder that we can inspect and compare with our own installations.

            Thanks.
