    Hi,

I’ve installed modx done everything, I can log into the manager but the home page has this:

    « MODx Parse Error »
MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
    « PHP Parse Error »

    PHP error debug
Error: Unknown(assets/modules/quick_edit/output.class.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory
    Error type/ Nr.: Warning - 2

    ------------------------------------’

I can’t express how horrible this is, I can’t see anything on the forums about this, and now lost all confidence
on this cms, if it can’t even install ... !!!

Please can someone help me? I don’t understand why this is happening. why is there no install faq? I mean it doesn’t happen to wordpress users.

      Three things.

      1. That error simply means that your upload was not complete. Please re-upload the assets folder making sure to reset all the proper permissions.

      2. There is an install guide on the main support site. There is no FAQ as there are no current common issues with installing MODx that I know of.

      3. This can happen with any CMS including Wordpress users.

I doubt its the case, but the include path could also be wrong... it would at least throw the same error ("No such file or directory").

        (assets/blahblah might be wrong)

More than likely though, Mark is right, the assets directory wasn’t fully uploaded. Just delete it and re-upload the whole thing, it might as well be an error on your ftp client’s part.

From what I can see, the include path is correct, at least that is what my 0.9.2.1 installation is.

So go into the Manger and edit the quick_edit plugin and disable it until you figure out what’s wrong with your installation. QuickEdit is not at all necessary to the functioning of MODx, it’s just a nice bit of "bells and whistles". I, for one, never even bother installing it.

Without further error details, not much anyone can do to help. The only error information I see pasted here indicates:

Unknown(assets/modules/quick_edit/output.class.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory

Which means that files did not make it to the proper destination on the server. This happens quite often when uploading via FTP, especially on less than optimal connections or when working with shared servers. Best option is to SSH in, upload the entire MODx zip or tar file, and extract it directly into it’s location on the server. If that’s not possible, you might want to find a sync tool for FTP that can compare local and remote copies of the files and let you know if any are missing. I use FTPVoyager on Windows for this purpose and it does a great job of finding such issues. Otherwise, you’re shooting in the dark, trying to make sure several hundred files got uploaded properly.

Also, Susan’s suggestion just now might get you past this error anyway; good luck...

You could try screaming headings in all caps and bringing Jesus’ name into the conversation, that might possibly help to express your feelings on the matter.

The reason you can’t see anything on the forums is that it is USER ERROR unique to you, and this is unlikely to be a frequently asked question. Clearly most other people managed to upload a bunch of files correctly.

I note however that in your previous posts you have asked about multi-domain solutions. Are you doing anything differently in this installation? Have you successfully installed MODx before? You’ve been on the forums for months.

I did this and it worked and error message went away!

I am truly and utterly horrified to the core it’s take this long for someone who knows modx to spot what the error was and suggest the solution.

Surely this error should be in a FAQ? It’s just not obvious in any shape or form that is the error.

Can we please set up a FAQ?

OK, I like quick Edit, how do I get it working, just disabling is just a workaround.

How do I know get it working?

can someone like scotwell, who clearly is extremely intelligent extremely observent and has the brain the size of planet help?

That would be "sottwell", not scotwell. Please pay more attention to minor details.

just disabling is just a workaround.

If you require handholding for every step of the way, WALK AWAY NOW AND DO NOT COME BACK UNTIL THERE ARE NO ZEROS IN THE VERSION NUMBER. We do not provide instant support on this free software.

Disabling it has merely confirmed which file is incorrectly uploaded.

Also, can I just confirm what exactly you installed. Was it 0.9.2.1 (correct) or was it from the SVN (wrong)?

This "error" is not affecting anyone else. Just your install. Hence it is not a "frequently" asked question.
