Yes also set RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /site/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
If your subdomain is installed in a folder of that main domain root.
I have sub.domain.com with its _own_ root and then I dont need it.

Still no luck - error 400. Could it be a different setting?

I dont know maybe your host have AllowOverride None?
Do you get 500 error if you type in junk in htaccess?

From your first post just add " RewriteBase / " to the htaccess (though it seems as your subdomain.domain.com have its own root!?
Did you uncomment the #Options +FollowSymlinks line?

"Try" with
Options +FollowSymlinks
as a new line above
(see modx folder htaccess or svn
http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/releases/0.9.6.3/ )
And remove this prefix:
info.php?q=

Added that line and removed the prefix - now I am getting 404 errors. So it is doing something just not yet working.
