  $base_url='http://my-domain.cz/';
  $base_path='/hosting/www/my-domain.cz/www/';
  $site_url='http://my-domain.cz/';

Hi all,
I’m setting up a new modx 0.9.6 website hosted on a virtual server a friend runs. He doesn’t want to give anyone the ability to use .htaccess files for security reasons so he’s asked that I work out the necessary config stuff and hand it off to him to put in his server config. I initially gave him the default .htaccess that comes with modx. With this installed and furls on in the manager, mysite.org/anythingthatisn’tindex.php would redirect to the "site start" page. Keith, my host, says:

the query string gets changed to this: q=home/myusername/public_html/tmp
if I request http://mysite.org/tmp

is this how the mod-rewrite chunk of things should be working, if my modx install is in home/myusername/public_html/ ? if so, what do I need to change on the config end of things?

It should be q=tmp; the rest of the path is incorrect and is likely due to a php configuration issue. However, without access to phpinfo, I’m not sure specifically what that issue might be. Likely PHP_SELF or SCRIPT_NAME is not being reported properly.

Hello all, hope someone can help.

I’ve been working on getting my site up and running, and turned on FURL, I followed the wiki instructions for .htaccess setup. When I loaded up the home page everything is smooth, but when I click on any of my links the URL changes to the correct path but the page is stuck on index (it even shows index title.

I’ve installed into my root dir., renamed both .htaccess files (root & manager) and here is my .htaccess code:

#Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

Has anyone run into this before?

Oh, and its not a caching issue either.

mediassassin, did you turn on the option in the manager to use FURLs as well, and is the install in a subdirectory?

Yes, I’ve turned on the FURLS option. My install is in my root folder as well.

I’ve tried the wiki tutorial as well as several posts on this forum, and I get two results:

1. Either the url updates and the page stays stuck on my index page.
2. I get page refresh and a 404 or a 500 error (although these only appear when I omit stuff from the .htaccess file.

This also happens when I just use the "prefic friendly urls" option as well.

I had great trouble with FURL’s not so long back and I found out by accident that I couldn’t use FURL’s if my installation was an Alias folder in http.conf of Apache.

Did you make any amendments in http.conf where specified?

Finally got my end working with Alias names. Total foopah on my end. Got something in there that shouldn’t have been in.

Please can you clarify a step-by-step process to create friendly URLs like (http://www.somesite.com/parent/child).

I followed the http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Friendly_URLs_Guide but my primary navigation links no longer work, especially MODX created weblinks to hidden pages.

What do I have to do in my Wayfinder templates for the links to work again, and make "parent/child" work with MODX?

Which method from the Guide did you follow? With mod_rewrite or without?

If with mod_rewrite, do you have a BASE tag element at the beginning of your HEAD tag? If not you’ll also need to add that (e.g. <head><base href="[(site_url)]"></base>...) as no matter what level in the virtual folder structure the MODx document is located, the paths need to remain relative to the root of the site.

Here’s what I did.

1. HTACCESS that comes with MODX has been installed with this at the top; I have not changed anything else.

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /

2. Added friendly URLs to on,
i. Use friendly aliases: on
ii. Use friendly alias path: on
iii. Allow duplicate aliases: on

3. Base URL (<base href="[(site_url)]" />) is in the HTML head of the page.

~~The problem I’m having is that it never shows the parent in my address bar (ie: somesite.com/parent/child).~~

EDIT: ^ I’ve now got the address bar and primary navigation showing the full path properly now!

EDIT: The biggest problem at the moment is if I have a link to a hidden page/container/folder just jumps back to the homepage without going to the right page.

So, my queries are:

1. How do you ensure ’Use friendly alias path’ actually works in both the address bar and primary navigation
2. How to ensure that using friendly alias path does not effect hyperlinks pointing to hidden containers/pages/folders
