  I have had problems with the weblogin script in the past, when my custom rewrite rules have attempted to hide /modx/ from the URL using a pass-through (PT). The (not ideal) way I got around the problem was to keep /modx/ in the URL if login was being attempted, which I did by checking for the presence of the loginpage or webloginmode parameters, as follows:
  
  

      # Rewrite modx login page (weblogin snippet) requests. In order for it to work we need to deal with "friendly urls" but not hide the modx site root.
      RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} loginpage=true [OR]
      RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} webloginmode=lo
      RewriteRule ^/modx/(.*) /modx/index.php?q=$1 [QSA,PT,L]
  

  
  I’m not sure whether the standard modx rewrite rules have the same problem. Suffice to say that weblogin is very picky about URLs.

  I have the following problem:
  
  On a testsite everything works fine, but when I put the website on the webhost I the base_url seems to dynamic, for instance:
  
  domain.com/sub works fine
  domain.com/sub/sub2 doesn’t work good, because it makes all the links with base_url the same, so the stylesheet isn’t loaded, because it searches in domain.com/sub/sub2/assets/... while it has to search for the sheet in domain.com/assets/...
  
  anybody know a solution?

  I have my base href as the root domain, achieved with a snippet:
  
  

  return '<base href="http://'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].'/"/>';

  
  
  That means relative urls like assets/... should point to the correct place (you may want to add modx/ to the end of that output, if you’re not hiding it with rewrite rules as I am).
  
  You could of course add a rewrite rule to look for assets in the url and pass through the correct location. Something like the following (untested):
  
  

  RewriteRule ^(.*)/assets/(.*) /modx/assets/$1 [PT,L]

  I’ve actually found a solution a couple of minutes ago, which I stumbled upon in the forums. I’ve putted the base_url variable in config.inc.php and the site finally worked correctly.

  The proper way to do this is to put <base href="[(site_url)]"></base> at the top of your template’s HEAD element. This anchors all your pages at the site root so all paths are then relative to the site root, regardless of where it’s deployed or moved.

  That’s exactly the weird thing, i’ve always used <base href="[(site_url)]" /> at the head of the page. But somehow that didn’t work as expected this time.

  I wasn’t using [(site_url)] because it output /modx at the end and I wanted to remove modx from the URLs (using rewrite rules). Is there any way of modifying the output of [(site_url)] to remove the /modx?

  You can do what I did, and put the following in manager/includes/config.inc.php,
  and modify it like the way you want it to be:
  
  $base_url=’http://yourdomain.com/’;
  $base_path=’/relative/path/to/www/’;
  $site_url=’http://yourdomain.com/’;

  Thanks, that’s good to know. Though thinking about it again, I’ve recalled another reason I did it that way - it allows me to run my site in multiple locations regardless of what the domain name is (e.g. for a mirror site).
